Meet Our Newest Rotarian
At our Feb 4th virtual meeting, the Skaneateles Rotary Club inducted their newest member, Mike Tierney.  Mike's is a patent Attorney and lives in Skaneateles with wife, Catherine.  He learned of our club and its activities at our Pints for Polio event last Fall and has joined us in several virtual meetings in the past few months.
We welcome Mike talents and enthusiasm in our continuing efforts to serve our world communities through a strong and vivant Rotary Club.
LAST WEEK - Feb 4th, 2021 ... by Bill Conole
Membership/Attendance: 52 Active members 14 attending
Guests:  Mike Tierney (for 15% of meeting and member for last 85%)
The Beginnings - President Dave opened our meeting by noting that; as of tonight, Mike Tierney will no longer be a guest but will become our newest member.
Winterfest: President Dave encouraged all of our members to support the Sunrise Rotary’s Winterfest 2021. Members can support this by contributing to the fest online. He reminded everybody how the SSR Club has always fully supported our club activities in the past.
Super Saturday Dist Assembly:  AG Bill Conole briefed everybody on the District’s February 27th “Super Saturday” Training Assembly.  Bill reviewed the event's agenda & encouraged everyone to join this zoom meeting on the 27th. (see notice below)
The Programs
New Member Induction: Membership Chair Tyler Lorey formally inducted Mike Tierney into our club by reviewing the  “The Objects of Rotary” with Mike & by telling Mike that our members eagerly welcome him to our club. (see notice above)
ClubRunner Website & Resources - PDG Ward Vuillemot deftly presented information on the Club Website & online resources & tools. Ward skillfully demonstrated how much club information is readily available online. Once a member learns how to navigate the relatively simple format, members can gain access to a wealth of club & RI information and resources. During his presentation, Ward quickly showed everyone how to access information on a vast array of club & RI topics. Ward volunteered to help anyone who needs assistance or a little tutoring on the Club Website or on accessing online tools.
Ward encouraged those member who have yet to take advantage of the ClubRunner app, do so as it is a convenient access to club and member information (see article below)
Ward is seeking a volunteer or volunteers to work with him so he can fully share the club web-based information & data system with them. Ward noted that in this way, if he is hit by a snow plow or run over by a been wagon, these resources will survive & flourish without him.
President Dave thanked Ward for his presentation & for the many years he has served our club.
The Endings:
Virtual Scavenger Hunt:  Prez Dave announced that will start a scavenger hunt of bits of facts and information that can be found on our website with prizes given to the first to find and report the answers, during the weeks to come.  He & Ward will supply the select home crafted prizes.  (see the first of many below)
4-Way Test: President Dave led us in the Four Way Test!
See Next week.
Virtual SRC Scavenger Hunt ... Ward
At our Feb. 4h meeting, following Ward's review of our club's website resources, Prez Dave announced that he will kick off a virtual scavenger hunt die bits and facts that can be found on our club's website.  Prizes are to be contributed from the home hobby shops of both Dave and Ward.  This week's prize is a jar of Dave's ever-famous maple syrup from his farm's sugar shack.  The club member who is first in responding with the correct answers, via email to Ward, will be the week's winner.
The small print - All entries will be examined by our certified panel of expert(s) and the "time & date" on the participant's email will be used to judge the first winner, should there be multiple entries with correct answers.
Enjoy you cruse though the website!
This week's web scavenger hunt is:
  1. Who was our first Club President?
  2. Our club membership has included two District Governors over the years.  Name them?
  3. On May 14th, 2020 our guest discussed treatment for COVID-19.  Who was the guest?
  4. RIP - What is the meaning of this abbreviation in Rotary-speak?

Ideas Wanted!  ... by Mary, Grants Chair
Each year our club participates in the District's grant program which offers a dollar for dollar match for club projects.  We're looking for ideas for a small grant ($500-$1000) for the 2021-2022 year.  Funds can be used to fund small scale short term activities that address needs in our community or communities abroad.  The project should include Rotarian involvement.  In the recent past our grants have helped provide dental equipment to an underserved area, Shelter Boxes, fund for YMCA/Community Center Scholarships, funds for ClearPath for Vets canine program, and construction of paths at Baltimore Woods.  If you have an idea let Mary Giroux know (mfgiroux0614@gmail.com).  And, there will be Grant Management training on February 27th.
