Membership/Attendance: 45 Active members- 15 Members Attending
Guests:Jacque McConnaghy, Speaker & John Buterbaugh
The Beginnings:President Terry led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ward reported that three full pallets of books were packed by sixteen strong volunteers. Books will be on their way overseas soon!
The Program: Lee introduced Jaque McConnaghy who runs the Skaneateles Outreach program. Jacque thanked us for all of our years of support. The Outreach program was founded a number of years ago by the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Skaneateles with it's purpose being to "try to solve people's problems" not only during the holidays but year round. The Outreach Fund is available to anyone with needs and a separate fund, "Helping Hands" is for students. Jacque described how much small investments such as paying for a student's SAT test or providing a pair of boots for a child can have a huge impact. Money raised during the holidays supports the program throughout the year. Jacque mentioned that gas cards are especially needed now as the price of gas is quite high. Individual donations or gift card can be dropped off at Town Hall with the envelope marked "Skaneateles Outreach". Or, donations may be made via the Town website under the (Helping Hands-Giving Hearts" section. Our thanks and appreciation go out to Jacque and her helper for helping to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors.
Lee talked about our virtual Holiday Basket fundraiser saying that at this time of year we "think locally and help people in our own community." Lee reminisced about his early years in Skaneateles and how the holiday Basket fundraiser was one of his first Rotary experiences. Lee reported that Lori, Jay and John Buterbaugh are working on a short video that we will be able to share with our friends as we ask them to participate in this fundraiser. More communication pieces will be forthcoming. Bill C, our Holiday Basket Emcee wrapped things up by saying "How we do it is different but why we do it has not changed."
