Marvin Langley was joined by his wife, Patti, at Tops Market to ring the Salvation Army Bell. Marvin is also a leading contributor/campaigner when it comes to our Holiday Basket Fundraiser. Marvin has been (once again) talking to friends and neighbors, giving them the opportunity to support local families. By just talking and asking, he has had huge success! We remind you all to help with this … one of our two most important fundraisers of the year. We are close to $12,000, thanks to 25 Rotarians and 24 non-Rotarian friends.
If you haven’t donated yet, please do!

LAST WEEK
Dec 2, 2021 - General Meeting ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 45 Active members- 14 Members (Inn & Zoom)
Guests: Steve Knapp (speaker), Charlie Ditzen (Mike's guest) & Aaron Barkley, (Ayham's guest)
The Beginnings:The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, "America the Beautiful" and an inspirational reading by Bill C. Lee Bennett reported our progress to date on the Holiday Basket fundraiser. There have been 31 donations with 18 of those coming from club members. We have two weeks to go. The committee has worked diligently on this project and provided a number of communication pieces we can share with friends, family and neighbors. Thanks to John Buterbaugh for his excellent video!
The Program:Steve Knapp, Executive Director of SAVES, told us about his background with more than 30 years in the medical profession.
SAVES began as an all volunteer organization but, as times changed, has evolved to having career staff with an all volunteer Board of Directors. SAVES responds to about 1000 calls each year, two thirds of which result in transports. Funding for SAVES is through public health reimbursements (about 65%) and commercial insurance (about 25%). Reimbursement rates often do not cover actual expenses. SAVES also raises funds from the community and is looking at proposing a taxing district as an essential service.
Steve told us about how COVID has affected services including staff illness, longer calls due to longer waits at hospitals and reduced staff. He strongly encouraged everyone to be vaccinated and to encourage unvaccinated friends and family to take the vaccine. Steve answered a number of questions from members. Thanks to Steve and all of the SAVES staff for being there for us 12,410 hours each year (365 days- 24 hours each and every day)!
The Endings - Lee Bennett led us in the Four Way Test
