General Schedule - for meetings - see notices below
LAST MEETING, Nov 21, 2024 ….by Katie Brown
THE BEGINNING: Bill Buterbaugh led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed our guests - Lena and Clark Maher. Also, welcome back Ward! ANNNOUNCEMENTS:
>Annual Dictionary Project on November 19th: Craig Froelich, Ed Evans, and John Buterbaugh delivered 80 dictionaries to the 3rd graders at the State Street School.
>Red Kettle Bell Ringing Update: Connor Finley discussed the next service project and is looking for volunteers. In the past, the kettle bell ringing was done outside Tops. This year we are partnering with the Chamber of Commerce and the bell ringing will be done outside either the Community Bank or Sothebys locations instead. Volunteers are needed for 1 hour time slots from November 29th to December 24th. Volunteers are also expected to show at the Chamber office 5 minutes prior to their shift so the bell ringing materials can be collected. Please sign up using the QR code below.
>Thank You: Bill thanked Pam Stern and Evie Shaffer for hosting happy hour last Thursday.
> Happy Hour Cohosts Needed for Early 2025: Bill discussed cohosts are needed for happy hours from January to April. Please reach out to Bill Buterbaugh if you would like to sign up.
> Holiday Basket Dinner Update: Marv Langley discussed the Holiday Dinner is coming up on Thursday, December 5th. Please send your individual or group table reservations to Craig Froelich (email cfroelich@gmail.com or contact him at phone number 405-517-8831). Once you have made your reservation, checks can be sent to Jay Stith. Please make sure the checks are written out to the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation. Additionally, the silent auction this year will consist of around 30 to 35 items which have been donated from various local organizations. The proceeds from this event will go to the Spafford and Skaneateles food pantries as well as Skaneateles Outreach. Marv is requesting a few more volunteers to close the auction (logging winners into the laptop) and volunteers to collect money for people who won each auction item – please reach out to Marv if you are interested in assisting.
>Club Holiday Party: Bill announced this will be taking place on December 19th at the Sherwood. The cost will be $35 per person and there will be a signature cocktail provided. Please come out and celebrate the holidays with your fellow Rotarians!
>No Meeting on December 12th: Bill announced there will be no meeting on December 12th due to the holiday season.
>Rotary Foundation: Bill discussed the Rotary Foundation provides money and grants around the world to help support international, regional, and local projects. The seven major areas of focus are peace, education, disease prevention and treatment, supporting the environment, maternal and child health, community economic development, and sanitation. The donation year is from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. During this season of giving, consider making a donation to the Rotary Foundation. The motto is “every member every year” but donations are not required. Ward also clarified that you can designate where your funds will go towards. For example, if you would like your donation to go towards Polio Plus, you would need to write this on your check. If you do not specify, the donation will default to the seven areas of focus. Bill will be sending out a letter soon with more information.
>Next Regular Meeting: The next regular meeting with be January 2nd at the Sherwood. This will be the Annual meeting so start thinking about new officers for the vacant positions.
>Future Speakers Needed: Speakers are needed for future meetings in February, March, and April. Please contact Bill Buterbaugh and Bill Conole with suggestions.
> Thank You: Again, thank you to the Sherwood staff for hosting our meetings!
THE PROGRAM: There was no speaker tonight. Instead, we heard classification talks from John Buterbaugh and Larry Jerome.
THE ENDING: Bill Conole led us in the (Four + one) Five Way Test
