Remember, proceeds from this event are shared with our club. Mary handed out the meeting and service project schedule for the next three months.
Matthews Auto Walkathon - Saturday October 7th for a potential service project (Matthews Auto Walkathon). More info to follow.
Happy Hour on the Judge - Our Happy Hour on Thursday October 12th is a cruise on the Judge Ben Wiles! Spouses welcome and bring a snack to share! We will be asking for RSVPs on this one and you will need to arrive promptly by 5:30 or be left behind.
The PROGRAM: Charlie Driscoll Phd. is a Skaneateles native, a professor at SU, a foremost expert on hydrology and a former host family (3 times!) for our club's youth exchange program. Charle spoke to us about the status of the lake including nutrient monitoring, algal blooms (HABs) and the effects of climate change. An interesting statistic about the lake is that it contains about 424 gallons of water. Of all the Finger Lakes Skaneateles is the cleanest. Phosphorous is at 5 micrograms per liter which is much lower than the other lakes. Warmer water temperatures are a key component to the harmful algal blooms the lake has experienced beginning in 2017. We are not alone as all other lakes are experiencing the same. Charlie answered a number of questions. We extend our gratitude for Charlie's and Kim's stewardship of our beautiful lake.

24 October in World Polio Day
AsWorld Polio Dayapproaches, we need your help to amplify our message about eradicating polio to protect the world’s children from a devastating disease. We have made tremendous progress since the Global Polio Eradication Initiative was launched:
A 99.9% reduction in cases of illness caused by wild poliovirus
3 billion children immunized
125 countries where polio was endemic reduced to two — Afghanistan and Pakistan — with the virus contained in just a few districts and provinces
But even just one case still represents one child’s life forever changed by polio. That’s why Rotary members must remain tenacious and keep our promise: We won’t stop until we know that no child will ever again experience the paralyzing effects of polio
