MEMBERSHIP NEWS: ... by Amy Tormey
Two More Extraordinary Women Inducted into our Club
Last week we welcomed Mary Giroux and Alice Purdy into our club.  Mary is a human resource consultant and a part time alpaca farmer who resides in Onondaga Hill. She is sponsored by Bill Conole, while Alice is sponsored by Robin Jowaisis. Alice is a financial analyst who resides in Skaneateles with her husband Jerry and daughter Alison.  Alison participated in a short term exchange to Innsbruck, Austria last summer. The Purdys will be one of the host families to Daniela from Sicily next year, and Alice is interested in getting more involved with Youth Exchange. Both women are interested in getting involved in our community service opportunities.  They are sure to be great Rotarians!

LAST WEEK: ... by Bill Conole
New Members Inducted - Club Membership Chair, Amy Tormey formally inducted our two new members Mary Giroux & Alice Purdy. Alice is sponsored by Robin Jowaisas & Mary is sponsored by Bill Conole. Over the past year as Membership Chair, Amy Tormey has welcomed 7 new members into our club, bringing our Active Membership rolls to 62. (see additional information in this issue)
Paul Harris Fellows Recognized - Bill Buterbaugh, RF Chair, assisted by President Cheryl Silvestrini awarded Paul Harris Fellow +’s to; Bill Blessing [PHF],  Chuck O’Neil [PHF+3],  Umesh Patil [PHF+7] & David Lee [PHF+8]. Cheryl & our members applauded Bill, Chuck, Umesh & Dave for their  impressive generosity.
Rotary Foundation - Chuck O’Neil gave an interesting overview of the origins & history of the now international Rotary Foundation. Nearly a century ago, the original gift to the Rotary Foundation was very modest. Thanks to astute management & the awarding of “Paul Harris Fellowships” the Rotary Foundation assets are valued at more than one billion dollars. Chuck noted that Paul Harris Fellowships are awarded to Rotarians who contribute $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Currently our club has 32 Paul Harris Fellows[PHFs] Many of these PHFs continue to make generous contributions to the Rotary Foundation & become “Paul Harris Fellows +”. Over the past decades Rotary Foundation funds have been used in an extraordinary effort to eradicate polio, to provide potable water & economic development to vast areas of the world & to educate the masse in underdeveloped regions of our world.
Skaneateles Rotary Foundation (SRF) - Chuck O'Neil briefly described how our club set up our own foundation several years ago to enable our club to have a funding mechanism to meet local needs. Chuck listed the club members on the SRF & welcomed the two new board members , Bill Conole & Bill Blessing. Currently our club foundation has assets of $4,000 & bequest pledges of $80,000. Chuck asked our members to please support our club foundation with annual contributions or with bequests.
Pancake Breakfast Robin Jowaisas reminded members to continue to sell tickets to our pancake breakfast. Robin reviewed the schedule for ticket sales at Tops for the next two weekends.

Excursion to the National Women’s Hall of Fame ... by Amy Tormey
Roberta Williams, Suzette Grinnals, Kathy Crelot, Alice Purdy, Mary Popovich, and Amy Tormey went to Seneca Falls on Friday, June 5th for a private tour of the Hall of Fame with the CEO, Jill Tietjen. First, our Rotarians enjoyed lunch at the Gould Hotel with Jill before visiting the Hall and then the Women's Rights National Historical Park. Jill also updated the group on the capital campaign to transform the 1844 Seneca Knitting Mill into a state-of-the-art facility for the Women’s Hall of Fame.  December 2016 is the target date to move into the first floor of the four story structure. The final activity of the day was a visit to the New Beginnings Thrift Shop. Everyone enjoyed shopping there, knowing that the proceeds go to the local food pantry of Seneca County. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and Jill Tietjen was very gracious with her time. Thank you Jill for a very enjoyable day in Seneca Falls!
