PRESIDENTS' CORNER
Greetings, Skantarians! This will be my final column as the torch passes to Mary Giroux. I wish to thank you all for your support, wisdom and enthusiasm. Rotary is a group effort and I could not be more proud of our individual and collective accomplishments. I look back on the past year with gratitude and look forward to the next Rotary year with new respect and understanding for Rotary's principles. Thank you. ... Bill Huba
Wishing you and your families all a happy and safe Independence Day! I look forward to the year ahead serving the club as best as I can. I really enjoyed working on the pancake breakfast, getting to know everyone a little bit better. Ward, and his "better half" June and I attended the district "Changing of the Guard" Thursday evening and we're pleased to let you know that our club received a number of awards which I will tell you about next week. Ralph Jurgensen - Umesh reported that Ralph Jurgensen is recuperating from a fall in Upstate Hospital. Umesh passed a get well card around.
Sandy Lee - Bill Conole welcomed , long time Rotarian Sandy Lee back to Skaneateles. When Sandy came in she sat down & helped members check in.
Rotary Ribs & Rhythm Blues Festival - Bill asked members to volunteer to help the Auburn Rotary Club at their July 15-16 "Rotary Ribs & Rhythm & Blues Festival.
Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Center - Bill mentioned having a meeting in the Fall at the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Center.
The Program
Polo for Preemies - Bill Conole introduced Crouse Hospital's Fundraising Director Jeff Comanici. Jeff is coordinating the 2018 Crouse Health Polo for Preemies event here in Skaneateles on July 30th. Last year's event raised more than $12,000. Jeff described the lifesaving services the 66 bed Crouse Neonatal Intensive Care Unit [NICU] provides for babies born prematurely. The NICU serves 41 upstate NY Counties. The goal for this year's Polo fundraiser is $20,000. Last year's event was a big success & Jeff is sure the 2018 event will be even more successful. Rotarian Chris Cheney will be coordinating our club's effort to publicise the event by putting signs in their front yard. Jeff also reviewed Crouse Health's major fundraising programs to update the ER & the NICU. Jeff invited Rotarians to come to this unique event & to help get the word out in Skaneateles.

On Sunday, Jul 23, 2017 at 2 PM, the Skaneateles Rotarians and friends will be selecting and packing children's and reference books at the Annual Skaneteles Library book sales, located next to the Village Hall, in the old fire barn. Once the book sales is over at 2 PM, we will be permitted to glean the books for the CNY Books for the World project. The selected books will eventually make their way to the children in 3rd world countries via the Rotarian BFTW project. The gleaning and packing typically takes from one to two hours. See ye there!
