INTERACT CLUB HAUNTED HALLWAYS
Theme - "Lakeview Penitentiary" Giving tours from 6:30 - 8:30 PM in the High School.
The Skaneateles High School Interact club will once again sponsor the Haunted Hallways for the community Halloween evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Commons of the High School. They will be taking donations to support the ShelterBox USA project.
Interact will start the set-up (decorating) at 2:30 PM and Rotarians are welcome to assist (all volunteers should report to the upper Commons on East St). Contact Karen Price if you can assist.
The Skaneateles Rotary Club, will continue it's many years of treating the Halloween trick-or-treaters to cider and donuts. This will be done once again in conjunction with the Haunted Hallways. Brad McLennan is in chairing the Cider & Donuts part of the event, and will be looking for Rotarian volunteers. ... by Ward
MEETING at CAYUGA ONONDAGA BOCES
The SRC's November 9th meeting will be held at the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES facility, in Auburn. The culinary students will be preparing dinner for us and there will be a tour afterwards. The menu will be:
Fall salad with roasted pumpkin seeds, cheddar cheese oven cured tomatoes, red onion and maple vinaigrette
Salmon Picatta with lemon blanc sauce
Chicken cordon bleu
Herb roasted red potatoes
Root vegetable medley
Chocolatte mousse tarts with fresh berries

Skeneateles Bookleggerssorted and packed 27 cartons of children's books Saturday, for CNY Books for the World. These books were gleaned from the Jordan Book sale held last month, Thanks to Cheryl for locating the books and organizaing the "packing party" and supplying the cider donuts. Participating were; Ward V., Gary Oz., Cathy & Doug Powell, Mary Giroux & Jean Sardino. A special thanks to Jan Richardson, of the Jordan Library, for making the books available to us. SHELTER BOXES - Oct 23, 2017 ...by Ward
The two Skaneateles Rotary Club's funded two Shelter Boxes through a District 7150 Grant this year. These Shelter Boxes contain shelters and other necessary materials to house a family in regions of our world who have lost everything due to natural disasters and conflicts. As a part of the project, the clubs arranged with the SSD and a ShelterBox USA Rotarian representative, Tom Deuson, to set up and display a Shelter Box in the High School commons. The Interact club supplied much of the setup labor, and are planning to raise funds during the school to donate to ShelterBox USA. Rotarians and Interactors working together to meet a great need in our world.
Everyone is getting ready for winter, raking leaves, testing out snowblowers (Ugh!) cutting back plants, etc. And as a club we're moving on with completion of our 2017/2018 ShelterBox grant project (thanks Cathy and Ward and Lori), preparations for Haunted Hallways (thanks Brad), and preparations for our Christmas benefit dinner (thanks to Marv and Cheryl and everyone else on the committee.) In addition, Bill Butterbaugh kicked off our foundation giving with Happy $$'s for polio. Bill Conole told us about the upcoming Honor Flight Dinner at the Lodge on Wednesday, November 8th. This is a great way to honor those that served our beloved country for the liberties we enjoy each and every day.

HAUNTED HALLWAYS - October 31st ---Mary reviewed the Volunteer/POC’s for the event in Skaneateles High School. Brad McLennan is coordinating this event’s setup & decorating.
SHELTER BOX - On Monday a team of Rotarians helped Watertown Rotarian Tom Duerson set up a shelter box in SCHS’s yard. Tom Duerson made a brief presentation on the Shelter Box’s utility. The SCHS students plan to donate the money they raise in their Haunted Hallways event to Shelter Box.
BOCES MEETNG - Mary passed around sign up shhets for our November 9th dinner meeting in the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Building in Auburn.
CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISING PLANING - The committee met last week & plans are set for the dinner. Amy Tormey will be distributing $30 tickets for our members to sell for the dinner.

Bill Conole opened his presentation by presenting a brief history of the CNY Veterans Recognition Foundation (CNYVRF). The CNYVRF is an all volunteer organization created in 2014 to provide our military members & their families the support’ dignity & respect owed them by our nation for their commitment, sacrifices & selfless service in preserving the freedoms we all enjoy. On Wednesday 8 November, the CNYVRF is holding their 4th Annual Veterans Dinner at the Welch Allyn Lodge.
Through the generosity of CNYVRF benefactors, the previous 3 Veterans Day Dinners, the CNYVRF has raised nearly $150,000 to support Honor Flight & veterans organizations in CNY. This year’s dinner in the Lodge is scheduled for November 8th from 6 to 9:30PM. This year’s Keynote Speaker will be MG (ret) Michael Dunlavey. Recently General Dunlavey was honored by his alma mater, Notre Dame, with the prestigious Father Corby Award during the halftime of the Notre Dame –Georgia Game. This year’s featured speaker will be MG (ret) Robert Kasulke. General Kasulke was the Commander of Army Medical Command & the Army’s Deputy Surgeon General. General Kasulke is a vascular surgeon in Watertown, NY. Dan Cummings of WSYR News Channel 9 is our dinner M/C. Bill thaned our Rotary Club for their support in previous years & asked that they again support this worthy event.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER – Dec. 7th ... by Cheryl Silvestrini
The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s Annual Christmas Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, December 7th, at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a Happy Hour at 6 p.m., followed by a traditional family-style turkey dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can purchased in tables of 8 and 10. You may contact Amy Tormey for tickets. Pre-paying for tickets with either cash or a check is highly recommended.
Please encourage Rotarians, family, friends, co-workers, etc., to not only buy a ticket to the event, but to ATTEND the event. The money from the donations of attendees is what we rely on to make this event successful. Also, we need the support of all Rotarians in coming up with raffle prizes. The goal is to have at least 50% of those who attend win a prize.
While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for prize donations, all Rotarians are also asked to donate prizes. The committee encourages Rotarians to buy prizes worth at least $30 and to purchase from local merchants. This year – on a trial basis – the committee has decided to forego purchasing prizes from Best Buy. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that all Rotarians contribute a prize for the raffle. Also, consider donating a prize from your business or the company you work for. Please let Roy MacDonald or Dave Piper know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize. Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize.

The third drawing of the Club 200 fund raising raffle occurred last week ... and the winner ... were (drum roll here) ...Alice Purdy & Charisse Kidd-Fulton Rotary..
200 Tickets at $20 each are being sold to members, friends & neighbors between now and October when 10 tickets (2 per week) will be drawn weekly with the winners receiving $50 each. The winning tickets will be recycled into the draw-bin for next drawing on the same day or following weeks. So ..... multiple chances to win on a single ticket or even twice in on same day, if your luck is really running high.
The whole event ends on Nov 16th, with two tickets will be drawn for $250 & $500. The two $50 draw dates are: Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Nov 2, and the $250 & $500 tickets will be drawn on Nov 16. ... and ... you do not have to be present to win!
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO PARTICIPATE - Cheryl Silvestrini still has the tickets for sale over. Do not miss out on this opprotrunity as it is limited to 200 tickets.
This is fun way for our Club to raise up $2,750 to use for worthy causes throughout the year. We can only make the maximum amount ($2,750) if ALL 200 tickets are sold. The key is for ALL members to participate in selling (and buying) tickets.
