Bill Conole made a presentation on Abraham Lincoln & St Valentine. Bill noted that before President’s week Abraham Lincoln’s February 12th birthday was a national holiday. Bill quoted from Lincoln’s memorable 1st Inaugural Address delivered on March 4, 1861 just as the Southern States were succeeding from the Union. Bill pointed out President Lincoln was a man “well acquainted with sadness” both in his personal life & as our President. Understandably Lincoln & his wife had a tempestuous marriage. In spite of this both Mary Todd & Abe worked through their difficulties. When Mary Todd died it was discovered that Abe had “love is eternal” inscribed on her wedding band. So it is fitting that we celebrate Abe Lincoln & Valentine in the same week. 
Bill presented a colorful summary of some of legends surrounding Valentine. Bill noted that many of these legends are now 18 centuries old & yet they endure. Bill attributed this to what Valentine represents to this day –love. The night before Valentine was killed by the evil emperor Claudius II, he sent the girl he loved, Julia, this note---“Be mine.-Valentine”—the very 1st Valentine in 289AD. 
50/50 - The Queens of Space had a rest from hiding in the deck on Valentines day; but will be in action this week.

Seldom do we have an opportunity to attend a RI International Convention this close to home. The last one was in Montreal 6 or more years ago. So .... Give it some thought and plan on seizing this opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the world and learn of great works they a doing to make this a better world.
