Membership/Attendance: 43 Active members -12 Members Attending Guests & Visitarians; Speakers - Marty Lynn & Peter Buehler from Skaneateles Fire Volunteer Department The Beginning: President Terry opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and welcoming our guests, Marty Lynn and Pete Buehler from the SVFD.
The Program: Bill C introduced Marty and Pete from the SVFD. Marty and Pete presented the club with a wonderful "Thank You" plaque in appreciation of the club's support of the SVFD over the years. Marty gave an update on the new residence for the fire department being built on Genesee St next to the fire house. A need was identified to have an affordable residence to attract younger volunteers. The residence is expected to be completed this spring and will accommodate four members. Members living at the residence will have a work requirement and will also pay rent. The Village owns the property which has been funded using Village COVID funds and also funds from Onondaga County.
Pete brought us up to date on SVFD's activity in 2021. There were over 400 calls in 2021 including EMS calls, storm damage calls and COVID related calls. The department ordered a new mini pumper which will be used to pump lake water for fires on narrow lanes leading to the lake which is now considered a "standard water source" for fire fighting. Delivery is expected in 2023. The department also upgraded their ISO rating from a "4" to a "2" which helps keep insurance rates low for residents.
