MEETING at CAYUGA ONONDAGA BOCES
The SRC's November 9th meeting will be held at the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES facility, in Auburn. The culinary students will be preparing dinner for us and there will be a tour afterwards. The menu will be:
Fall salad with roasted pumpkin seeds, cheddar cheese oven cured tomatoes, red onion and maple vinaigrette
Salmon Picatta with lemon blanc sauce
Chicken cordon bleu
Herb roasted red potatoes
Root vegetable medley
Chocolatte mousse tarts with fresh berries
The cost of dinner is $20 and we will need to have a count of those that will be going. Please contact Mary at:mfgiroux0614@gmail.com or use the signup sheet that Mary has at the Thursday evening meetings.

Fellow Rotarian Ken Slentz gave us an informative summary of the objectives of Project 2021 and the financing of the project primarily through state aid. Ken presented in a clear and concise manner to the benefit of his audience. Thank you Ken! Please vote at the District Office, 45 Elizabeth street on Tuesday, November 14th between 7am and 9pm.
We had some nice publicity in the Skaneateles Press with a lengthy article about the Shelter Box project. Interact raised over $500 with Haunted Hallways to benefit Shelter Box.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the BOCES dinner next week. Remember the time is 6:00 and the address is 1879 West Genesee St, Auburn See you then.

RING THE BELL - Our annual Salvation Army Kettle project, at the Tops Market commences Friday, December 8th. The schedule can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page. If you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact John Moran (685-8440), or the sign-up sheet will be at this and next week’s meetings.
A great project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self while serving your community. Check the schedule .
HAUNTED HALLWAYS - SHELTER BOX benefits Students raised $512 while also treating the community to Haunted Hallways on Tuesday night. That is half way to a ShelterBox! Hundreds of visitors waited in line to see Lakeview Penitentiary, and filed past donation boxes that described the relief that ShelterBox brings to people affected by disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding or conflict. Along with other Rotary Clubs throughout the world, the Skaneateles Rotary Clubs have joined ShelterBox in an effort to offer much-needed relief. The Skaneateles clubs already have purchased two boxes equipped with a large tent that can sustain three to ten people for extended periods of time. In addition to sleeping bags, netting, cooking equipment and supplies, and water filtration systems, each box also includes a solar powered light. Each “box” is $1000. Students in Skaneateles were motivated to raise funds after ShelterBox representative and Rotarian Tom Deuson spent a day displaying the ShelterBox in the high school Commons.

The third drawing of the Club 200 fund raising raffle occurred last week ... and the winner ... were (drum roll here) ..Dale Zabel & Ruth McKenna..
200 Tickets at $20 each are being sold to members, friends & neighbors between now and October when 10 tickets (2 per week) will be drawn weekly with the winners receiving $50 each. The winning tickets will be recycled into the draw-bin for next drawing on the same day or following weeks. So ..... multiple chances to win on a single ticket or even twice in on same day, if your luck is really running high.
The whole event ends on Nov 16th, with two tickets will be drawn for $250 & $500. The two $50 draw dates are: Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Nov 2, and the $250 & $500 tickets will be drawn on Nov 16. ... and ... you do not have to be present to win!
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO PARTICIPATE - Cheryl Silvestrini still has the tickets for sale over. Do not miss out on this opprotrunity as it is limited to 200 tickets.
This is fun way for our Club to raise up $2,750 to use for worthy causes throughout the year. We can only make the maximum amount ($2,750) if ALL 200 tickets are sold. The key is for ALL members to participate in selling (and buying) tickets.

HAUNTED HALLWAYS - Event was a huge success attended by over 400 students & adults. Kudos to Brad McLENNAN, Karin Price & our Haunted Hallways Committee for a job well done.
BELL RINGERS - John Moran is sending around a list for members to sign up for our annual holiday bell ringing in Tops. John thanked Tops for again allowing us to ring our bells in their store.
BOCES MEETING – Mary passed around a sign up sheet for our Nov 9th dinner in the Cayuga/Onondaga BOCES Building in Auburn.
MARVIN LANGLEY SR - Marvin’s dad passed away a 99 earlier this week. Last year Marvin gave a very interesting presentation to our club on his valiant WWII service as a commander of a tank unit on D Day on Omaha Beach. Marvin’s funeral service is on Friday at 11AM in the First Presbyterian Church.
The Program:
Skaneateles Schools Superintendent & Rotarian, Ken Slentz spoke on the compelling need for the Skaneateles Central School District to embark on a much needed $36.5 million capital project that is now known as Project 2012. In effort to achieve complete transparency for this project Ken is reaching out to our community to underscore the vital need for project. The project is broken into 4 categories. They are:
1 - REQUIRED RENOVATIONS---Based on health & safety concerns these areas are the highest priority. Due to age of the equipment, material, space these areas have deteriorated to near dangerous levels.
2 - PROACTIVE RENOVATIONS---These areas are known to be beyond warranty. Unless action is taken soon, these areas will be in a compromised condition in the near future. Upgrading these areas will lead to greater efficiencies & will enhance our building’s educational environments.
3 - PROGRAM ENHANCEMETS-These areas are focused on improving instructional spaces.
4 - FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATION—Areas & systems still under study for future upgrades.
Ken pointed out that a key consideration for a project of this magnitude is the ability of the district to access state aid. By doing so the district anticipates receiving approximately 22 million in state aid(about 62.9% of the project’s cost). As a result the anticipated local share is approximately $12.3 million to be paid over 20 years. This keeps current debt service & local share flat. This means that taxes will not change due to this project. Ken reviewed pictures that graphically show key areas in school buildings that have markedly deteriorated due to age. Ken offered to take concerned citizens of tours of these areas that need immediate attention. Ken is available to show slides of these areas & explain why these areas must be repaired & upgraded. Ken responded in detail to many questions raised by members.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER – Dec. 7th ... by Cheryl Silvestrini
The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s Annual Christmas Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, December 7th, at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a Happy Hour at 6 p.m., followed by a traditional family-style turkey dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can purchased in tables of 8 and 10. You may contact Amy Tormey for tickets. Pre-paying for tickets with either cash or a check is highly recommended.
Please encourage Rotarians, family, friends, co-workers, etc., to not only buy a ticket to the event, but to ATTEND the event. The money from the donations of attendees is what we rely on to make this event successful. Also, we need the support of all Rotarians in coming up with raffle prizes. The goal is to have at least 50% of those who attend win a prize.
While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for prize donations, all Rotarians are also asked to donate prizes. The committee encourages Rotarians to buy prizes worth at least $30 and to purchase from local merchants. This year – on a trial basis – the committee has decided to forego purchasing prizes from Best Buy. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that all Rotarians contribute a prize for the raffle. Also, consider donating a prize from your business or the company you work for. Please let Roy MacDonald or Dave Piper know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize. Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize.
