Keynote Speaker and Special Guest at Skaneateles Rotary Club's 2nd Annual International Women's Day event on March 3rd, 2016: Speaker - Margaret “Meg” O’Connell is Executive Director of the Allyn Foundation, a private family foundation located in Skaneateles, New York. She served as Executive Director from 1994-1998 and then returned to the position in 2001. The Allyn Foundation, with assets of $29m, was founded in 1954 by William G. Allyn and his father, William N. Allyn, founder of Welch Allyn, Inc. The Foundation distributes grants to support its mission priorities to organizations in Onondaga and Cayuga Counties.
From 2011-2012 Meg served as Interim President of Onondaga Community College. Over the years, she has served on numerous not-for-profit boards including Planned Parenthood of Rochester/Syracuse, Friends of the Central Library, Skaneateles Library Association, Wells College Board of Trustees and Onondaga Community College Board of Trustees. From 2014-2015 she served on the Board of Education for the Skaneateles School District.
Through her work with the Allyn Foundation, Meg also serves as Chair of the Early Childhood Alliance, Work Train, ABC Cayuga and the Syracuse 20/20 Education Task Force.
Prior to joining the Allyn Foundation in 1994, Meg worked in fund raising and development. Her career includes planning and implementing capital campaigns for Planned Parenthood of Syracuse, the Skaneateles Community Center (both in 2001 and 2014) and numerous other projects.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, Meg lives in Skaneateles, NY with her husband, Eric Allyn. They have three daughters.
Special Guest - Carrie Lazarus is an award-winning anchor and reporter for News Channel 9 WSYR. Her FAMILY HEALTHCAST was one of the first daily local health and fitness reports in the nation, and the first in Central New York… bringing viewers the latest in health, fitness, and family news since 1986. She anchors News Channel 9 at Noon, 5pm, 5:30 and 6:00pm daily, and contributes regularly to 9wsyr.com. A graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, Carrie is the mother of two, a frequent public speaker on health-related issues, and active in many community activities. Carrie was honored in 2004 with the Syracuse Press Club’s Bliven- Ganley-Rossi Award for Career Achievement. She and Rod Wood form one of the most enduring news teams in the nation, with more than 25 years as co-anchors.

Alice Purdy visited Jackson Hole Colorado last month and returned with an addition to our several hundred trading banners, and most importantly, she experienced the friendship and hospitality of the Jackson Hole Rotarians while making-up a meeting. The Club met at the Hilltop Restaurant this week and some improvising had to be done. Thanks to Post-It notes, Skip Plank and Chuck Williams did a great job with check-in and attendance. Since we also had no tray or raffle tickets, we did not collect Happy Dollars or do a 50/50 raffle.
St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center - Our speaker this week was Vince Kuss, Acting Vice President of Development for the St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center Foundation. Vince talked about the importance of "One Stop" services for the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease and how they are trying to raise funds for a 3-D Imaging Unit for the Northeast Medical Center in Fayetteville. Thanks to the St. Agatha Foundation who is matching donations dollar for dollar, they are about $50,000 away from their goal. Vince said that help is needed by way of donations to purchase the Mammography Unit, but we can also help by spreading the word about the new Center. Vince encouraged the members to tour the facility and give feedback on ways they may be able to improve their services.
Happy Birthday - Cheryl announced that Kathy Crelot was celebrating a birthday, and the Club serenaded her with "Happy Birthday".
International Women's Day Celebration - Amy Tormey spoke about the International Women's Day Celebration scheduled for next week. She asked Rotarians to sit at tables with members of the community and talk about why we joined Rotary and what we love about it. This is a sold-out event, and she encouraged people to pay the $27 prior to that evening. Checks should be made payable to the Skaneateles Rotary Club. Cheryl thanked Amy and her committee members for their hard work to make this such a special event.
Children's Water Safety - Ward discussed a service project that might be of interest to our Club and asked any member who would like to coordinate this project to see him. The project provides education about swimming safety to young children.
RI Director Jennifer Jones visit - Ward also talked about our March 17th meeting and our special guest, RI Director Jennifer Jones, who will assist with several PHF presentations. Ward encouraged all members to attend this very important meeting.
Making up a Meeting Away - Alice Purdy presented the Club with a banner from the Jackson Hole Rotary Supper Club which she visited on a recent vacation. Alice said it is a wonderful opportunity to attend the meetings of other clubs whenever possible.
4 Way Test from Memory - Since there was no "Four-Way Test" banner to read from, Cheryl asked the members to recite the test as a group. The Club did a great job!

Dani is available and willing do a multiple of different tasks in order to save money for the Rotary X-Country Trip In July. She will baby and/or pet sit, be a Spanish tutor, clean house, etc AND hopefully real soon....gardening chores.

LONG TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Outbound - The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have departed for a year as exchange students abroad. Sofia Darovskikh, to Finland, and Zach Driscoll to Germany. We wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Inbound - student have moved to their second host families: Vincent , from France, hosted by Jessica & Tom Wingfield, and Daniela from Chile, hosted by Shelly & Marc Strang.
SHORT TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM (STEP)
Hope Glowacki has spent a few weeks in Sicily, Italy and her host sister, Irene returned with her to Skaneateles for a few weeks.
Adrianna Marshall traveled to Thuringia, Germany and his host sister, Constanze, returned to Skaneateles for an exchange.
