A Very Special Happy Hour!
Craig and Barb Froelich hosted club members and guests at a very special Happy Hour!  It was a beautiful summer evening at the Froelich's lakeside boat house.  New club member Gary Grizadas was inducted and is shown here with his lovely spouse, Jill, and club members.  Also attending was a very special guest, Claire Brown, accompanied by her proud parents Dillon and Katie.  Thank you Craig and Barb for a beautiful evening!

Front Desk Duty!!!
Ayham and Bill B are the scheduled front desk members for our next club meeting on July 31st.  Remember that if you will not be able to attend the meeting you are scheduled for it is your responsibility to find a replacement.
Donation to Operation Walk NY
At the July 17 Board of Directors meeting a donation to Operation Walk CNY was approved.  The organization provides medical services such as hip and knee replacements to patients in developing countries that normally do not have these life improving services available.  Our donation is meaningful in that it will cover the cost of one "module" which is a prepared sterile box that goes into the OR for each case and contains all of the disposable items needed for a joint replacement:  surgical gowns, irrigation fluids, scalpels, sterile bowls, gloves, syringes and sterile drapes.....just about everything needed for the surgery except for the implants and medications.  Our donation will make a big difference in someone's life!
Food Pantry Help Wanted -----it's easy!
The Skaneateles Food Pantry can use some help! One of the items the Pantry always needs is breakfast cereal so we're asking that members bring a box of cereal to each club meeting. It's an item that flies off the shelves each week so your help with this would be greatly appreciated. And, thanks to club members for this week's donations pictured here.

Last Meeting: July 17, 2025
The Beginning:  Andy led us in the Pledge and welcomed our guests:  Nick and Mindy Lapresi (Nick was our speaker from the Finger Lakes SPCA), Lacey (a cute little pup awaiting adoption from the SPCA) and Corinne Buterbaugh (Bill's better half).
Announcements:
  • No meeting next week, enjoy the summer evening.
  • Meeting on July 31 - remember to bring a box of cereal for the Food Pantry.  Also, please RSVP to Ed for meeting attendance so that food quantities may be planned.
  • Larry Jerome will be hosting our August Happy Hour.  We need a cohost for that date also (Aug 14)
The Program:  Nick Lapresi, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes SPCA in Auburn began by telling us that the work of the SPCA is about "both the people and the pets.  There are currently 36 animals up for adoption at the Finger Lakes SPCA, one of which is Lacey who also attended our meeting.  She was very well behaved and happily greeted club members.  In addition to placing animals in new homes the SPCA has a number of other programs benefitting both the animal and the community.  They include a pet food pantry to assist lower income families.  Over 7500 pounds of food were distributed in 2024.  They also sponsor a low cost spay/neuter clinic averaging about 35 animals each week.   A vaccine/microchip clinic is another service offered.  Each year the SPCA handles from 350 to 400 cruelty/neglect cases.  Nick is currently working on setting up an animal abuser registry through New York State.  The facility is undergoing renovations which should be complete by the end of August.  The SPCA, under Nick's leadership provides valuable services!  Pictured here with Andy are Nick, Mindy and of course, Lacey!

Board of Directors Mtg Brief  ... by Mary Giroux
Your Board of Directors met on July 17, 2025.   The following is a brief of the discussions and actions taken:
Attendees: Andy Stevens, Jay Stith, Mary Giroux, Brad Wilson, Bill Buterbaugh, Evie Shaffer, Duane Weaver and Vince Magnotta
Andy Stevens opened the meeting.
Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Financials: Jay reviewed the Foundation financials.  We are in good shape.  Duane reviewed the Club financials and we are in good shape with those as well.  Subsidizing special Club events was discussed as a way to use some of the excess funds in the Club’s account.
Worthy Causes: The following expenditures were approved:
  • Operation Walk NY
  • A donation to The Barrow Gallery in the current Rotary year and the next two Rotary years.  Each of the three annual donations will be the cornerstone donation of the Gallery’s annual appeal.
  • Skaneateles Education Foundation to provide training for one teacher for a peer mentor program for incoming high school students
  • Donation to the United Methodist Church in memory of Dot Coye who passed away earlier in the week.
A general discussion was held regarding the Club’s giving strategy.  General membership will be asked for input at a future club assembly meeting.
Youth Exchange Update: Lena returned to her home and Clara is expected to arrive from Denmark in August.  Our outgoing student, Eric, is scheduled to go to Itay but is awaiting word on his visa status.  Jay reported that additional members are needed for the YE program.   The Sunrise Club will be invoiced for 1/3 of the YE program expenses.
Pancake Breakfast: Jay reported the net proceeds for the breakfast.  Advance ticket sales were higher; however attendance was down slightly.  Expenses were also higher than in previous years. Mary reported that the breakfast committee will meet to review the event but that overall, it went well.
Club meetings/structure/officers:
  • Andy will schedule a Club Assembly soon to review the survey and seek input from club members on projects, worthy cause issues and member engagement.
  • The Board approved Brad Wilson as President Elect.  Thank you, Brad, for stepping up!
  • Jeff LaMarca's induction as a new member is pending.
  • Happy Hour hosts are needed for August, September and October.
Community Service Projects: Upcoming projects are as follows:
  • Library Book Sale clean up – date TBD but will happen late July/early August
  • Fireman Field Days clam and corn – August 30-31
  • Duck Dash – Event date is September 27 with Duck numbering on September 25
Next meeting: September 4, 2025, at The Sherwood at 5:00.
