From The Prez - The Rotary Foundation Brunch & Awards
My Dear Friends and Fellow Rotarians. On Sunday November 1st I was honored to receive two awards on behave of our club from the Rotary District 1750. At our Foundation brunch the Skaneateles Rotary Club was recognized for being third in per capita giving to the Foundation and first in total dollars given to the Polio Plus foundation, congratulations to all the members of our club. These achievements were accomplished in the 2014-15 Rotarian year under the leadership of Cheryl Silvestrini.  Job well done!  ... Bill Blessing.

2014-15 Rotary Foundation Global Grants roundup
We’ve closed the door on a second full year of the new grant model and there’s a lot of good news to report: We awarded 1,078 global grants in 2014-15, up 24 percent from the previous year’s total. The dollar value of global grants totaled $64.9 million. The most popular area of focus was disease prevention and treatment, followed closely by water and sanitation. We also awarded 487 district grants, totaling $23.8 million. And we awarded 16 scholarships, totaling about $500,000, for study at UNESCO-IHE in the Netherlands. ...   ... from RF
LAST WEEK: Club Assembly ... by Bill Conole
Christmas Benefit - Jack Hyatt reminded everyone that our Christmas Benefit is scheduled for Thursday December 3rd in the SCC. Tickets are moving briskly so Jack urged everyone to get their tickets now.
Inland Port - John O’Sullivan  introduced his friend & associate, Rich Roche  by noting that for the past 21 years Rich has worked in the inter modal business moving international containers to & from the Syracuse region. In the early 2000’s Rich was instrumental in bringing containerized rail service from the West Coast to Syracuse. Rich opened his presentation by describing ocean container ships . With modern technology today’s container ships are much larger & can move large amounts of freight efficiently & at low cost. Because of the new ships  enormous size many canals & harbors are being broadened & dredged to accommodate these new wider container ship & their 40’-50’ drafts. Rich pointed out  the many benefits of developing a new, state of the art, inland port to CNY. Properly implemented it will provide our region with the economic & environmental efficiencies of rail transport, much needed jobs & many other economic opportunities. Rich explained in detail how the inland port will operate in Jamesville. Rich stressed that this inland port proposes to bring 2,000 well paying jobs to Syracuse with a low barrier to entry. This inland port is an exciting project that can have a profound effect on Syracuse & the CNY region for many years.
