New Community Service Chair
Thanks to Corey Bauman for stepping up to be the Club's new Community Service Chair. As a club our goal is to have at least one community service project each month. If you have any ideas for a project, please contact Corey at 949-233-7608 orcorey@thebond1835.com.
Duane and Dave are the scheduled front desk members for our next club meeting on Oct 2nd. Remember that if you will not be able to attend the meeting you are scheduled for it is your responsibility to find a replacement.
Duck Dash Volunteers Needed! We still have a few empty slots that need filling—please take a look and sign up if you can! Every helping hand makes a big difference in making this event a success. Thank you for pitching in!
The Beginning: Bill Buterbaugh led us in the Pledge and welcomed our guests Clara Staemorse, Janice Wiles, and Jim Stewart.
Announcements:
Exchange Student: Pam Stern introduced our exchange student, Clara. Clara arrived in August and has been enjoying her time so far in Skaneateles. She has enjoyed the boat tour, swimming in the lake, tennis club, and working with horses.
Thank You: Bill Buterbaugh thanked everyone who brought in cereal boxes for the food pantry. He also thanked Mary and Bill Conole for hosting the past happy hour at the Legion.
Duck Dash: Jay Stith discussed the Duck Dash will be happening on September 27th from 3-5 pm. If you are volunteering, please be there by 2:30 pm unless you were directed otherwise. Coolers are still needed as well, let Jay know if you are able to help out. Additionally, volunteers are still needed! Please sign up if you are able to help out, the link is included above.
Duck Numbering: Reminder the duck numbering will be happening on September 25th at 5 pm at Jason's Shop. The numbering usually takes about 1-1.5 hours. There will be pizza provided afterwards and feel free to bring your own drinks. Also, there will be another volunteer oppurtunity to help organize ticket stubs for the Duck Dash. The date and time will be determined. Jay will send out more information regarding this soon.
Service Project: Janice Wiles discussed a potential service project for sometime in October or November. The service project will entail building 28 tables for a nature preserve being purchased by a nonprofit. This preserve will focus on restoration with native plants to protect the water quality. There is a pledge to have a greenhouse to help grow plants to rewild the property. It will also have hiking trails and barn for educational purposes. Mike Tierney will be sending out an email soon with more information.
Happy Hour: Sadly, the happy hour on the Judge Ben will not be happening this year due to the low water level in the lake. Hopefully, this happy hour will be restored next year. Cohosts are still needed for the November 13th Happy Hour. Please reach out to Bill Buterbaugh if you are able to help host.
Speakers: Speakers for the regular meetings are still needed for January - Feburary if the current dates are not filled with the potential speakers they are working with now.
Holiday Basket Dinner: Save the date for December 11th at the Skaneateles Country Club. There will be more information to come regarding this event but start thinking about family and friends to invite. The silent auction will be featuring 20-25 premium items, start thinking of vendors who would like to make a donation.
No Meeting Next Week: There will be no regular meeting on September 25th so please help with the duck numbering if you are able too.
Club Assembly: Save the date for October 30th for a Club Assembly! This is an important meeting to discuss the club restructuring.
The Program: Bill Buterbaugh and Larry Jerome discussed the differences between the two foundations - The Rotary Foundation and the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation is run by Bill Buterbaugh and is a part of Rotary International. It helps support causes around the world with seven different focus areas. Each year, this foundation asks each member to donate money in order support Polio Plus and the Foundation in general. Last year, we did not meet the Foundation goal for donations. Donations are due by the end of the Rotary Year which is June 30th. Please be on the look out for a letter coming to your mailbox soon regarding donation reminders for this year. The Skaneeatele Rotary Foundation is run by Larry Jerome. This consists of endowement funds and personal funds which support worthy causes and the exchange program. In essence, this foundation collects funds from the events we host like the pancake breakfast and donations. This foundation exists to support the community and gives our club a chance to participate locally.
50-50: Bill Conole was the happy winner of the 50-50 AGAIN! He sadly did not draw the Queen of Hearts. The pot stands at more than $125 and there are only 38 cards left to draw from!
Five Way Test: The meeting ended with the Five Way Test
The Skaneateles Food Pantry can use some help! One of the items the Pantry always needs is breakfast cereal so we're asking that members bring a box of cereal to each club meeting. It's an item that flies off the shelves each week so your help with this would be greatly appreciated. And, thanks to club members for this week's donations which stocked the shelves!
President Lizzy Martin sent a message saying the main CNY Rotary Facebook page was shut down by Facebook so everything has been moved to a new group called CNY Rotary News Network. Please check out the new facebook page! This is where everything from the news network, leadership team, and events are shared.
