2020 RING THE BELL ... by Ward
Has been a difficult year for the Salvation Army, and other providers of critical services, and it is critical that we start planning our annual Bell Ringing project now so that we are staffed and ready to ring-n-ding at Tops by December 4th.   So ....please review the schedule, which can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page, or CLICK HERE.
If you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact John Moran at 315-685-8440 [home] or 315-256-5163 [cell]. Feel free to leave a message about your desired time if he does not pick up. Or e-mail him at john.moran46@aol.com.  John will confirm all appointments.
A great project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self in our community.
LAST WEEK - Nov 12, 2020 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 50 Active members- 20 attending
Guests:   Geralyn Huba, Director, Skaneateles Historical Society and Bill Huba's lovely spouse.  Valorie Porter, friend of James Wanamaker and potential new member.  Ayam Boucher who will become a new member on November 19th.
The Beginning- President Dave opened the meeting by welcoming our guest Geralyn Huba. James Wanamaker introduced Valorie Porter potential new member. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by members followed by a moment of quiet reflection in recognition of those that have served our country. The following announcements made:
  • Zoom Board Meeting  will be this Monday, Nov 16th at 5:00.
  • Ring the Bell Schedule is being compiled by John Moran.  (see notice above)
  • Meeting Schedule  was reviewed for the next few weeks.  Next week's meeting (Nov 19) will be a  combination live meeting at The Sherwood with Zoom. The following week is Thanksgiving (Nov 26th) and we will not meet.
  • Highway Cleanup on Nov 7th was a great success.  Thanks to all that participated.
  • Wedding Bells rang on the Sunday in June that would have been our 52nd annual pancake breakfast!  Chuck O'Neil wed his long time sweetheart, Caroln Legg.  Congratulations to Chuck and Carolyn!
  • Baltimore Woods work is complete thanks to the efforts of many club members.  The next step is signage which will be installed in the Spring followed by a "kick off" opening of the new trail.
The Program  Geralyn Huba, Director Skaneateles Historical Society, was our guest speaker.  Geralyn began her career at age 16 working at the Historical Society in Seneca Falls during her high school years.  She has been in her current position for two years.  Geralyn told us about dealing with the closing of the Creamery due to the pandemic in March.  A number of changes needed to be made including obtaining contact information for visitors, reconfiguring exhibit spaces, the addition of social distancing markers and one way routing, repurposing the meeting room and adapting the process for research requests.  In addition there were a number of repairs that needed to be made. After all of Geralyn's and her corps of volunteers hard work the Creamery began welcoming guests on August 1st.   Geralyn expressed appreciation to the community for their support.  Unlike many museums The Creamery does nor rely on funding from the government but relies on memberships and fundraising in the community.  The Creamery sees about 3000 visitors each year, 90% of whom are from out of town.  Geralyn extended an invitation to visit The Creamery to see the exhibits, shop in the gift shop or volunteer.  Geralyn also treated us to a "virtual tour" of The Creamery which has the mission of "to collect, preserve and exhibit materials related to the Town of Skaneateles."
The Endings - James W.  led us in the Four Way Test.  Next week's meeting is at The Sherwood with a  Zoom connection. (see above)
