Firemen's Day - Clams
As a reminder of your volunteer hour helping our Fire Department by serving clams at the Austin Street Pavilion. ANNUAL CLUB PICNIC - Mark your calendar for Sept. 24th, 6 to 8 PM - The Annual Pancake Breakfast Thank you and Incoming Youth Exchange Welcome event is to be held at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. This is a family/spouse/guest event. Planned menu is: pulled pork, chix, for non pork eaters, salt potatoes, beans and hopefully the caterer's wonderful corn bread. We ask our Rotarians to bring an appetizer. Thanks to Karen Price for once again chairing the event.
NOTE that there is to be no alcohol at this event, so please do not bring any beer, wine or other spirits.

Show us your peace sign! Draw a picture, create art with found objects, or make a human peace sign with members of your Rotaract or Rotary club and post the photo to your Facebook or Instagram page using #rotarypeace and #peaceday. We’ll share what peace means to you on 21 September.
Share your table by organizing aGlobal Feast for Peace. Cook a meal together or have a potluck event with foods from different cultures.
Organize friends, co-workers, or community members to observe one minute of silenceat noon local time on 21 September, uniting in solidarity with millions around the world

Upcoming Events - President Bill Blessing reminded everyone of our upcoming events.
Fireman's Field Days - Jack Hyatt asked for volunteers to help staff the Fireman’s Field Days next week on Sept 4th & 5th.
Honor Flight - Before starting his presentation Bill Conole thanked our club for supporting Honor Flight. This year our club joined with the Morning Club to fund & to obtain a $6,000 District Grant for the Honor Flight Program.
Last year several members of our club attended our inaugural Honor Flight Veterans Dinner in the Skaneateles Country Club. Bill saluted the veterans in our club & thanked them for their service. Bill Conole opened his presentation on the Honor Flight Program & the Veterans Day Dinner by noting that Tom Brokaw aptly called our WW2 generation the “Greatest Generation”.
Between 1941 & 1945 more than 16,000,000 men & women jointed our Armed Services to fight in WW2. Today there are fewer than 850,000 surviving WW2 Veterans. Honor Flight’s mission is to fly these veterans to DC at no cost to them, so they may visit memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifices. Bill briefly reviewed the rather recent history of our national & statewide Honor Flight Networks.
CNY Honor Flight was founded in 2012. On October 6, 2012 CNY Honor Flight #1 sent 21 WW2 Veterans to DC. Over the past 3 years CNY Honor Flight has sent almost 300 WW2 & Korean War Veterans to DC. Currently we are preparing to send 80 more veterans to DC on Honor Flight #6 on October 3rd.
Bill noted there has been 4-6 veterans from the Skaneateles area on each of these flights. Bill pointed out that even though everyone pitches in to help our Honor Flight veterans the costs of staffing & equipping these flights is steep. CNY Honor Flight’s goal is to raise enough money to sustain the program & future flights. A great way to help support this program is to attend our Second Annual Veterans Day Dinner on November 11,2015 in the Welch Allyn Lodge. Last year’s inaugural dinner was a great success & raised over $40,000 for the program. All proceeds from the dinner go to the Honor Flight program. Bill asked everyone to please consider this most worthwhile event that benefits our veterans.

The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have been selected and will be departing this summer for a year as exchange students abroad. They are: Sofia Darovskikh, going to Finland, and Zach Driscoll going to Germany. We congratulate them upon their selections and wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Our Inbound students will be: Daniela Fadic Contreras, from Chile, and Vincent Lambert form France.
