PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings, Skantarians! A great meeting this past week; we voted on our new PE, Mary Giroux (congratulations!), awarded the final prizes in our fundraiser (thanks again to PP Cheryl Silvestrini!), and kicked off plans for our Christmas gala (thank you, PP Jack Hyatt). This coming week we will have a fundraising focus for polio eradication and enjoy an acclaimed speaker (thank you, Amy Tormey). To recap one item from the meeting - we are short two Board members, a VP and a Fundraising Chair. I would like everyone to reflect on their ability to serve and step forward on behalf of the Club if they can help fill the gap.

ENDING POILIO IN NIGERIA: The Fight Continues
Whenever a disease is close to eradication, there is always the chance it may fight back. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened this July in Nigeria, when three cases of polio were reported in Borno State. Never one to back down from a challenge though, Rotary members are, once again, on the front lines, working side-by-side with the Nigerian government and our Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners to conduct emergency vaccination campaigns in Nigeria and neighboring countries to stop the disease from spreading.
Outbreaks like this serve as a reminder that every country needs to remain vigilant against polio by strengthening disease surveillance systems and vaccinating every child. We have beaten polio in this part of the world before and we are confident we can -- and will -- do it again.
Skaneateles Rotary Club's Happy-Dollars are to be donated to The Rotary Foundation's Polio Eradication efforts.  So ... BE HAPPY, DIG DEEP, and GIVE GENEROUSLY.   Also, as an extra bonus, any contribution of $50 or more will get you a one of a kind, hand crafted Wine-Stopper donated by PDG Ward.
Haunted Hallways Returns with a twist... by Karen Price
This year Haunted Hallways is at the HIGH SCHOOL that will be transformed.  Cider and donuts will be served again by the Skaneateles Rotary Club and Interacters and volunteers will utilize the Courtyard and Science wing to thrill our tricker or treaters.
Cider and donuts in the Upper Commons.  The decision to move Haunted Hallways came down to convenience and giving our transformers more precious time to decorate.
A group of energetic Interacters voted unanimously to bring Haunted Hallways back to our community.  So on Halloween night Oct 31st 6-8 come to the HIGH SCHOOL and see the transformation on our spookiest night of the year.  Numerous preparations being made to redirect the crowd to the Upper Commons at the HIGH SCHOOL.  Hold on tight, "We're Back"!!!!

PROGRAMBill Conole opened his presentation by announcing that our 2016 Veterans Day Dinner will be held on Wednesday November 9th in the beautifully remodeled Hotel Syracuse. Bill thanked our Rotary Club members for their support of Honor Flight Syracuse & our two successful Veterans Day Dinner in 2014 & 2015. These two dinners raised $100,000 for Honor Flight. Bill mentioned that over the past year our Veterans Day Committee became a 501 c-3 charitable organization. As part of that process our committee was renamed the CNY Veteran Recognition Foundation. The intent of moving the dinner to the Hotel Syracuse is to underscore hat we want this dinner to serve CNY. This year we are honored to have Dr Mike Haynie as our Keynote Speaker. Dr Haynie is responsible for Veteran & Military Affairs. Bill encouraged Rotarians to again support our veterans by joining us at the new Marriott Syracuse Downtown on November 9th for this important & memorable.
