PDG Dave Peterson passed away .... Ward
David R, Peterson Sr. of West Winfield passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.
Dave was a long standing member of the West Winfield Rotary Club, and a Governor or Rotary District 7150 during the 1997-98 Rotary year.  The Rotary Theme for the year was:  "Build The Future With Action and Vision"  Dave and his wife Alice enthusiactively traveled the district spreading and living that message.  Dave remained active in the PDG Council and other district affaires as long as his health permitted.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of life service on Monday, Sept. 26th, at 10:00 AM at the Federated Church 452 East Main St. in West Winfield. Interment will follow in Cedarville Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, Sept. 25th,  from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home 365 West Main St, in West Winfield.

LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
Introductions & Announcements - Laughter resounded & more than a few tears were shed as more than forty Rotarians, their spouses & guests gathered to bid a fond farewell to Bill Stevens & his wife Mary. Lee Bennett served as the Master of Ceremonies for Bill’s farewell dinner.  MC Lee Bennett introduced several guests from Rotary District 7150 who worked with Bill on the District’s Youth Exchange [YE] Program.
PDG Dave Peterson's passing observed -Our District Governor Peter Cardamone noted that Past DG Dave Peterson[DG 1996-1997] recently passed away. DG Peter paid tribute to past DG Dave Peterson’s many achievements in Rotary. Peter asked our members & guests to observe a few moments of silence in honor of past DG Dave Peterson.
NGSE Program - Prior to dinner, Randy Wilson a District YE Coordinator introduced Kanilca Shah an NGSE Student from Surat India. Randy briefly described the NGSE program & her future aspirations.
Farewell to Bill & Mary Stevens
MC Lee Bennett opened our club’s tribute to Bill Stevens by proclaiming to Bill that “this is your night—our opportunity to honor you” Lee noted that in Bill Stevens 27 years in Rotary Bill has been a worker & a leader both here & at the District level & most importantly a friend to everyone on our club. Lee introduced Randy Wilson from the Sauquoit Rotary Club. Through their joint efforts, Bill & Randy made our District 7150 Youth Exchange program one of the best in our nation. Randy recounted how Bill’s efforts built our successful & highly acclaimed District YE Program.
Lee spoke of Bill’s YE efforts and cited the 2000 District Conference where Bill arranged & managed this large event by coordinating several special programs. During this conference Bill shepherded the many YE guests. Lee summarized Bill’s many contributions to our Skaneateles Club with the phrase “always willing----any time any place”. Bill Stevens served our club as our Club President[95-96], Board Member Club Treasurer & Secretary & Foundation Board member. Lee praised Bill as a “hands on Rotarian” willing to do any job from flipping pancakes, to book sorter for Books for the World & to USA bus chaperone for 30 days. Through the years Mary & Bill hosted numerous YE students & served as the “party house” for during numerous YE weekends. Randy Lee with an emotional salute to Bill for his tireless service to the Rotary YE Program & for their long and warm friendship.
Lee Bennett noted that his decades long friendship with Bill included almost all areas of their lives. Lee stressed that the most meaningful aspect of their friendship is their shared love of Rotary. Now their many shared Rotary activities are rich memories. Lee said “he will personally miss Bill but the Rotary Club of Skaneateles will miss Bill even more. We are better Rotarians & people because of you.
Before presenting Bill Stevens with his Paul Harris Fellow plus 3, Bill Conole gave a brief overview of the PHF Award , it’s history & the qualifications for receiving the award. Fittingly Bill Stevens is receiving his PHF+ on the centennial of the founding of the Paul Harris Foundation in 1916. Bill Conole noted that, through his ongoing contributions, Bill Stevens made the YE “Change the World” come to life. Bill Conole stated that Bill Stevens is exceptionally worthy recipient of this Award.
Bill Stevens warmly thanked his many Rotary friends for his memorable sendoff. Bill thanked his wife Mary & his daughters Lori & Jane for their love & support.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
On Government "Government is merely a servant – merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn’t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.".... Mark Twain
