CNY Books for the World -Ward Vuillemot presented an overview and update on CNY Books for the World. Ward founded CNY BFTW in 2007. The mission of Books for the World is to improve literacy in the world. Thanks to Ward's efforts, CNY BFTW is now set up as a 501c-3 charitable organization. CNY BFTW is affiliated with Rotarian Books for the World. Ward pointed out that Rotarian Books for the World is an inexpensive, hands on international service project, that engages club members in a positive way. Ward described the process he and his band of Rotairan Booklegger have extablished in CNY to collect, pack & ship books from CNY to Texas & then ultimately to Africa. Since it's founding in 2007 more than 80 Rotary Clubs in Upstate New York, from Districts 7150, 7170, 7190, & 7040 have participated in this project by collecting & shipping more than 25 40 foot sea containers. Ward noted that this project is conducted by unpaid Rotary volunteers. It costs Rotary Clubs about $225 to ship one pallet of books (approx on ton of books). With justifiable pride Ward noted that CNY BFTW is the 2nd largest Books for the World in the US. Ward thanked all of our club members who have helped out on this most worthy project. Ward received a standing ovation for his presentation & for founding & coordinating CNY BFTW
