PANCAKE BREAKFAST - RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.....
by Chuck O'Neil, Chair ; Mary Giroux, Vice-Chair
Believe it or not, the annual Father's Day Pancake Breakfast is just a little over oneweek away! Father's Day this year is June 19th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as Friday, June 17th AM and Saturday, June 18th AM for set-up, and Monday, June 20th AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 48th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success! Our event has raised cumulatively over $500,000 since our first Breakfast in 1968, adjusted for inflation! So please schedule to be in town that weekend to help out at this "fun filled" community event! This service project, which supports many worthy causes, only works if every Rotarian makes a full commitment!

Program -
CNY Rising - Our speakers on Thursday were Elizabeth [Liz] Burakowski, Deputy Director of Upstate Revitalization & Jessica DeCerce the Governor's Representative for CNY. Liz opened her presentation by citing the recent success Buffalo Area is experiencing largely due to the more than one billion dollars NYS skillfully invested to help spark the area's recovery. The Media has dubbed this program the "Buffalo Billion". Now NYS is planning on investing 1.5 billion dollars in CNY to help create a similar revitalization for the CNY economy. The name of this revitalization program is "CNY Rising". Liz explained that this program has 3 pillars. They are: (1) To expand business growth and opportunities in CNY. (2) To strengthen existing businesses & industries to ensure that they remain in CNY. (3) To build a business friendly climate that will lure businesses to CNY. Through this plan our Governor has already committed extensive funding to CNY . On Thursday our Governor was in Syracuse to tour the beautifully remodeled Hotel Syracuse & to announce two new businesses that are relocating to Syracuse bringing several hundred new jobs to our area. The "CNY Rising" Program wants to sustain this momentum by keeping our citizens informed and involved and by seeking their impute & ideas for revitalization. Liz noted that, since the great recession, unemployment is down sharply in CNY. Programs such as "Syracuse Promise" has increased our high school graduation rate. Under our Governor NYS has had 6 straight on time budgets, Based on the widely recognized success of the "Buffalo Billion" program & these early favorable signs, there is every reason to believe that the "CNY Rising" Program will revitalize our local economy. Liz and Jessica responded to many in depth questions from our members about the specifics of the program & New York State's current business climate.
