The SRC Board of Directors approved the membership applications of Evie Shaffer and Sharon O'Connell  via email ballot on February 11th.

Sharon lives in Skaneateles and is a school librarian and the Skaneateles Middle School. She has attended our past meetings and participated in the club' SHP project earlier this month.  She was the organizer of Skaneatele Middle School Kazakhstan exchange program.  Sharon is sponsored by Lori Ruhlman.
If there are no objections made in writing to the Club Secretary by Feb 25th, dues are paid and they have received Rotary information, Evie & Sharon will be inducted into our membership at our meeting of Feb. 29th, 2024 or a later date.
LAST MEETING, Feb 1st .... by Mary
Guests:  Caroline McSwain, Jonah Williams and Rob Gadjo
The Beginnings: President Doug opened the meeting leading us in the Pledge and welcoming our guests.
Club Administrator - Doug announced that the at the Board meeting Bill B who has kept us organized and focused over the years was elected as the Club Administrator.  This won't change what Bill has been doing and we can continue to rely on him to continue to provide meeting calendars on card stock paper!!!
> Sleep in Heavenly Peace - Bill C commented on a great Sleep in Heavenly Peace service project which was well attended with all having a good time thereby satisfying the "Will it be Fun?" test.
> Mardi Gras Happy Hour - Bill also thanked Rosemary and Duane for a festive Mardi Gras Happy Hour last week. (see article below)
> Community Service Chair - A replacement is needed for Jay Stith's Service Project Chair role as Jay has his hands full with Treasurer and Exchange Program duties.  This can be a committee of two or three club members that organize service projects several times a year.
> March Service Project - The March service project is at Samaritan Center in Syracuse on Saturday, March 23rd.  More info to follow.
The Program:  Our guests were Rob Gadjo, American Legion organizer for Boys and Girls State, Caroline McSwain, Girls State attendee and Jonah Williams, Boys State attendee.  Rob showed an inspiring and informative video starring himself, Caroline and Jonah.  Caroline and Johan then told us about their experiences at the weeklong programs which focus on government and citizenship.  Both Caroline and Jonah were candidates for Governor in their respective races.  Campaigns required strategizing, organizing and debating.  Caroline and Jonah are both Seniors and are looking forward to their next chapter in life.  Jonah will be attending the Air Force Academy and Caroline will enroll in a Pre Med program.  Club members asked a number of questions.  CLICK HERE to see a video presentation.
The Ending:  Doug led us in the (Four + one)Five Way Test.
Board of Directors Mtg  ... by Mary
Your Board of Directors met on Feb. 15, 2024
Attendees:  Doug Hill, Jay Stith, Mary Giroux, Andy Stevens, Dave Lee, Rosemary Mondo, Ed Evans and Mike Tierney
President Doug Hill opened the meeting at 5:00.
Minutes:  Minutes of the January 2024 meeting were approved.
Financials:  Jay reviewed the Foundation financials.  The club is in good shape.  Jay also reported that the Karen Price scholarship funds have been placed in CDs at M&T Bank.
Worthy Cause Approvals:  A motion was made by Rosemary and seconded by Dave to approve donations to the CNY Land Trust and the Skaneateles Community Band.
Pancake Breakfast:  Ticket prices were discussed and it was agreed to keep the price at $10 for adults and $5 for children.  Use of the Square was discussed and Mary will look into what we need to do to make this happen.
New Member Approval:  Sharon O’Connell and Evie Schafer were approved for membership.  The club notice will be placed in the upcoming newsletter.  Sharon will be inducted on February 29th.
Exchange Student Program:  Jay updated the Board and presented the budget for the club’s expenses related to the program. Doug made a motion, seconded by Dave to approve the budget. We have one inbound student next year who will be a female.  Host families are being sought.  Three families are needed.
Community Service Projects:  The March project is serving lunch at the Samaritan center on March 23rd.  Bill B is organizing this event.  April’s project is tentatively Highway Clean Up, and the May project is our annual Food Drive which culminates in collection and drop off on Saturday, May 4th. There was discussion about partnering with Scout Troop 61 for the Food Drive.  Dave will reach out to the Troop.
Annual Spring Event:  Last year was the Kentucky Derby event and discussion was had about an event for this year.  We have a number of Paul Harris awards to
recognize and it was decided to have a special dinner on May 16th.  Bill B and Ed will work on this.
Community Service Chair: Jay is stepping down from this position effective June 30th as he has taken on additional club duties.  A replacement is needed and will be brought up at the club meeting.
Club Administrator Position:  President Doug put forth a motion to elect Bill Buterbaugh as the Club Administrator.  Bill has relentlessly kept us focused and organized over the last years without any recognition.  All agreed that he deserves our appreciation.  He is now our elected official and this does not add any additional responsibilities for Bill but formalizes his position.  Bill is also the Foundation Chair.
Next BOD mtg:  April 4, 2024 at The Sherwood at 5:00.
Mardis Gras Celebration!
Many thanks to Rosemary and Duane for a memorable Happy Hour at the Legion last week with a Mardi Gras theme.  There was good food and drink and lots of comraderie.  A good time was had by all and by the way.....Bill C got the baby in the king cake.  CLICK HERE to see a few more pics of the event.
YOUR HELP WANTED!!!
The club is in need of a Chair (can be one person or a team) to organize Service Projects.  Jay has done this for a number of years but has taken on additional responsibilities as Foundation Treasurer and Youth Exchange Chair.  The position is responsible for setting up six to eight projects a year.  The club's goal is to have a service project each month.  Routine projects are the Pancake Breakfast, Highway Clean Up, Winterfest, and the Holiday Dinner.  Many time suggestions come from club members and repeat projects such as Sleep in Heavenly Peace are great.  If you have any questions contact Jay at (jstith@healthstrategyassoc.com).  If you're interested in stepping up for this job contact President Doug at  (nyhillhouse@verizon.net).
Sleep in Heavenly Peace - Service Project
A number of Rotarians and others met at the Auburn Finger Lakes Mall on Saturday Feb 10th to prepare and assembly single and bunk beds for local children in need of beds.  A great turnout and a super club project organized by Jay.  CLICK HERE to view Pictures supplied by Roberta, located in our club's Photo Albums webpage.  CLICK HERE  to visit SHP's webpage and learn more about this great community project.
