Question: What is a District Assembly and who should plan to attend?
Answer:  It is an annual training session for all income officers of Rotary Club, where the 2018-19, Rotary and District objectives and focuses will be discussed, as well at specific training and updates for Club; Secretary, Treasurer, Foundation Chair, Membership Chair & Public Image Chair.  However, all Rotarians are invited to attend.
The Skaneateles Rotary Clubs have been around for a few years; however, each Rotary year brings in a new set of District and Club officers.  To paraphrase an old saying goes; “It’s not too late to teach a ‘long standing Rotarian’ new tricks.”

THE PROGRAM - American Legion Post 239
Bill Conole introduced our speaker Eric Amberge. Eric is the VP of Altimira Technologies. Eric is the Commander of American Legion Post 239, in Skaneateles, N. He also volunteers in support of the YMCA & the VA Hospital. Eric served for 8 years in the US Air Force. Eric opened his remarks by thanking Rotary for the Rotary Scholarship the Homer Rotary Club gave him when he graduated from high school.
Eric reviewed the Legion’s mission. Next year, Post 239 will celebrate the 100th year of it’s founding.  Eric showed a picture of the first Skaneateles American Legion Meeting held at the site of the SCC, by troops who returned home from WW, on August 18, 2019. Today there are more than 2.2 million Legion members in the US. Our post has 175 members. Eric praised Post 239, Sons of the American Legion (150 members) & the Ladies Auxiliary (90 members) for bringing a special vitality to our Post. Post 239 is making an effort to reach out to & to recruit new members.
The Post has an active Community Outreach/ Youth Program.  Many of these programs have active participation from the scouts & from SHS students.  Every year Post 239 sponsors students to attend Boys State & Girls State. The Post’s recently refurbished upstairs kitchen & large meeting will make the Legion more open to community events. Eric stressed that for 100 years, Post 239 has served the Skaneateles veterans & their families.
Post 239 is making every effort to continue to serve our veterans & to better serve our community.
