PETER ANDERSON WILL BE MISSED
We are sad to have to report that Rotarian Peter A. Anderson, 79 of Skaneateles passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 11am at First Presbyterian Church, Skaneateles.
Peter joined the Skaneateles Rotary Club in January 1995. Prior to joining our club, he had been a member in both the
Pleasant Valley NY and the Hyde Park Rotary Clubs for over 5 years. Peter was an active Rotarian and served his Rotary club in many capacities, his and local and international community in many ways. He was a multi-Paul Harris Fellow (PHF+8), a Major Donor as well a Benefactor of the Rotary Foundation.
Our club members and community will miss Peter and his “always ready to support and serve” attitude.
NOTICE - CLUB BY-LAWS & CONSTITUTION UPDATES.... by Ward
As discussed at the July BOD meeting; Ward, Cheryl & Mary reviewed the club by-laws & constitution to make bring them up to date with RI recommendations and requirements. We found only minor changes required.
By-Laws - Modified references to the Constitution to be consistant with that document. (see page 3, Article 11 Leave of Absence)
Constitution - as "The bylaws of Rotary International provide that each club admitted to membership in RI shall adopt this prescribed standard club constitution", we replaced the old copy of the standard club constitution with the newer accept version from RI. (pages 2 - 13) There are very few subsequent changes of note. One minor change that affects us is that to meet the attendance exempt 85 rule, the Rotary must have been in Rotary for a minimum of 20 years, in addition to the age + years in Rotary = 85, and BOD approved.
We will vote to accept (or reject) these changes at the September 14th meeting.
PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
We welcomed Marv Langley as our new board member this week. Marv is new to our club and is jumping in feet first! The Club's By-Laws were reviewed in conjunction with the Rotary Constitution and minor changes were made. We will vote as members on September 14th to accept the By-Laws. You may review the documents by going to the Club website homepage. Under the "Site pages" on the left hand side of the screen there is a listing for "Club By-Laws and Constitution."
We also discussed final plans for the Shelter Box grant and we are soliciting ideas for a grant proposal for the 2018-2019 year. If you have thoughts on this please give your ideas to our grant Chairperson, Cathy Powell, Grant applications are due early in 2018 so we should begin the process now.
In closing, let's hope the world events settle down and do our part to promote kindness.

Summary Notes of Aug. 10, 2017 Meeting... by Ward
Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a short summary of discussions points and resolutions.
Marv Langley - who is filling an open 2017-18 BOD position was welcomed.
Skaneateles Rotary Foundation financial statement, supplied by Kathy Crelot, was distributed and reviewed.
Skaneateles Rotary Club financial statements (Club Accounts), supplied by Duane Weaver, was distributed and reviewed.
Rotary Leadership Institute tuition reimbursement - A motion was made and approved to reimburse members their tuition fee should they attend RLI for the 2017-18 year. (see event notice below)
Donations - Worthy Cause Chair & her committee is reviewing all donation requests for recommendations on a quarterly basis to the BOD. Additionally, will provide a pro-forma "giving" budget will be prepared for planning purposes at our next meeting.
Shelter Box - grant completion steps were discussed, as well as the need for ideas of next year's District Grant. Cathy Powell is the Grant Chair.
Club Service Project Chair - Jim McQuiggan accepted this position in our club management structure.
Program Schedule - reviewed and discussed y Bill Conole. . He urged members to continue to send program ideas his way.
Revised By-Laws & Constitution - Review committee: Mary G., Cheryl S. and Ward V. announced that have completed their review with very minor recommendations made. The Constitution was revised to reflect the RI standard club constitution as required by RI. The revisions are posted on our web site (CLICK HERE) and a they will be voted up on the Sept 29th meeting. (see notice below)
Dictionary Project - was approved for this year. Dictionary & Thesaurus will be distributed to 3rd graders this Fall. Bill Huba is chairing the project.
Syracuse Club project "100 for 100" was discussed and tabled for further study and clarification.
November BOD meeting - date has been moved to Nov. 16th, as we will be a an off-site (BOCES) the prior week.
Next BOD Meeting - September 21st. at 5 PM at the Sherwood.

Club 200 Fund Raiser: Cheryl is ready to sell tickets for our 2017 fundraiser. Cheryl will bring $20 tickets to the next few meetings. There will be multiple chances to win. (see below)
Polo for Preemies: Chris Cheney announced that this year’s Polo For Preemies fund raiser raised more money than last year’s event. Chris thanked our members for supporting this worthwhile venture
Baltimore Woods - service opportunity: Dale Drake asked members to help out with a Baltimore Woods Fundraiser on August 20th. Last year Cathy Powell, Ward Vuillemot & 3-4 members helped out on this fundraiser. (see below)
Peter Anderson: President Mary noted that our friend & long time Rotarian Peter Anderson died. His Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00AM in the First Presbyterian Church.
2017 Club Directory: Ward Vuillemot distributed the 2017-18 Skaneateles Rotary Club Directories. Copies will be mailed to those not attending the meeting.
The Program: SCHS State Championship Girls Lacrosse Team Coach Bridget Marquart . Bill thanked Jack Emmer for inviting Coach Maquart. Quoting Coach Emmer, Bill noted that all good coaches are, first & foremost, good teachers. Bill noted that beyond her outstanding record Coach Marquart molds the girls on her team into good athletes, good students & good citizens. Coach Marquart introduced one of her all star athletes, Abby Kuhns, a junior. Last year Abby led hockey & lacrosse teams to state championships. Coach Marquart noted that she has coached girls lacrosse for 16 years. During those years her teams have won four state championships & have made it to the sectional finals every year. More impressively, than this, during her 16 years of coaching, 60 of her players made the All American Academic Team, 13 players have been named to the national All American Girls Lacrosse Team & this year one of her players Kyla Sears was named the best High School Lacrosse Player in the US. There are several thousand high schools in the country that play girls lacrosse. This year’s Skaneateles Lx Team was ranked 13th best in the nation. Coach Marquart & Abby Kuhns responed to several questions. Responding one question, Coach Marquart noted that when she was considering coaching job offers , one coach in a nearby town cautioned her not to go to Skaneateles because” the kids are so soft”. Over the past 16 years Coach Marquart has used her considerable coaching skills to debunk this misperception. Coach Marquart has consistently guided teams that are athletically & academically topflight. Bill Conole closed by thanking Coach Marquart, on behalf of our veterans for the splendid job her team does setting up & running our Skaneateles Flags of our Veterans Tribute every Veterans Day.
As a footnote, SCD Superintendent Ken Slentz noted that the GPA of Lacrosse varsity team was 94! This is the result of dedicated kids, supportive families, and coaches who establish this as an important priority.
50/50 - Was won by Chuck O'Neil. To everybody's frustration, the queen of spades remains hidden the the deck.

BARRY RASSIN SELECTED TO BE 2018-19 ROTARY PRESIDENT
Bary Reassin, of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New providence, Bahamas, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2018-19, and will be declared president-elect on 1 September if no challenging candidates have been suggested. Rassin;s nomination follow Sam F. Odor's death in July, just two weeks into his term as Rotary International president-elect.

ANNOUNCING - CLUB 200 FUND RAISER
200 Tickets at $20 each are be sold to members, friends & neighbors between now and October when 10 tickets (2 per week) will be drawn weekly with the winners receiving $50 each. The winning tickets will be recycled into the draw-bin for drawings the following weeks. So ..... multiple chances to win on a single ticket.
The whole event ends on Nov 16th, with two tickets will be drawn for $250 & $500. The $200 draw dates are: Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Nov 2, and the $250 & $500 tickets will be drawn on Nov 16.
Cheryl Silvestrini will have the tickets for sale over August & September. Do not miss out on this opprotrunity as it is limited to 200 tickets.

They are a source of excellent information, project ideas, a window into Rotary activities around the world, and they qualify for an attendance make-ups.
