Sharon O'Connell - New Rotarian ... by Lori
Sharon O'Connell was inducted into the SRC on the 29th of February.  Sharon was the library media specialist at Skaneateles Middle School and now fills in at Cayuga Community College.  She was known for pulling off programs of local and global impact: preserving the stories of WWII veterans through eighth graders, and organizing a Kazakhstan exchange program in the Middle School.  She has attended Rotary events and has always admired Rotary and its focus on service … and how it works to connect people within the community and around the globe, without religious or political affiliation. LAST MEETING, Feb 29th .... by Mary
The Beginnings: President Doug opened the meeting leading us in the Pledge and welcoming our guests:  Chris Legg (Fellow Rotarian, Town of Skan Supervisor), John Buterbaugh (Bill's son), Kartik Sharma (John B's friend), Evie Shaffer (soon to be member), Mike Paciorek (Rosemary's friend), and Nina and Bella, our exchange students.
Induction of Sharon O'Connell:  Mike inducted Sharon (see article above) to our club.  Welcome Sharon!
Announcements:
> The Rotary Foundation - Bill B announced that over time our club members have contributed in excess of $300,000 to the Rotary Foundation.
> March Service Project - Bill then summarized upcoming meetings and the March service project which is at  Samaritan Center in Syracuse on Saturday, March 23rd.  The project runs from 12:30 to 3:00 and Bill B needs to know who will be participating as a total of 17 people are needed.  Contact Bill B atwrbuterbaugh@gmail.com or 703-626-8575.
> New Service Project Chair - Bill also announced that Connor Finlay has agreed to be our new Service Project Chair.  Thank you Connor!
> District Assembly - Ward announced that the District Assembly is Saturday, April 6th.  In addition to club officer training and updates, you'll be able to learn about the new district structure. (see notice below) Let Ward know if you'd like to car pool.
The Program:  Bill C introduced Chris Legg (who really needed no introduction).  Chris brought us up to date on a number of Town projects:  extension of the Town water district, the 9 Element Plan, shoreline structure planning and the solar code, the new motel tax, elimination of the Town's Tax Collector position, the Highway department's changes to snowplows for better plowing results, the status of Allyn Arena plans with collaboration between the Village and Town, the upcoming property inventory and valuation and two hour free parking in the municipal lot for Town residents.  Chris gave us a lot of information and left us with an understanding of the many moving parts in running the Town.
The Ending:  Doug led us in the (Four + one)Five Way Test.
District Training Assembly. .. from: PDGE Lizzy Martin
The first official CNY Rotary event is coming up soon! District Training Assembly will be Saturday, April 6th, from 10am-4pm at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School (VVS), where we will host a day of learning with something for every member.
The day will include:
- General sessions to cover the key Rotary topics of Foundation, Membership, Public Image & Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
- An in-person Grants Management Seminar (your last opportunity for this grants session)
- A trade show space filled with booths featuring all of our CNY Rotary committees and programs where you can connect with leaders, ask questions and address you and your club's specific needs
- Break-out sessions with training for your club secretaries and treasurers, as well as opportunities to learn more about Rotary's Action Plan, Youth Programs, and becoming a leader in our region
- Plus space to socialize over a cup of coffee and a snack
This will be the perfect place for you to find the resources and inspiration your club needs to succeed in 2024-25, as well as how to get involved with CNY Rotary. There are new committees to learn about, new approaches to support for our clubs, and many new faces to put with a name.
> Admission is FREE.
> Boxed lunch, coffee and snacks will be provided.
> A hotel to stay over and an opportunity for a group dinner afterwards will be available if you are interested.
Visit www.cnyrotary.org for the details and to register to attend by Wednesday, March 27th.

ROTARY ~119 Years of Service Above Self
On 23 February, our wonderful organization completed 119 years. A fantastic journey of service so far...but still miles to go. We are "this close" to eradicating polio, and our efforts in peace building are the most required in today's time.
On this Anniversary of Rotary, let's all recommit ourselves to the service of the world community through whichever avenue that engages us the most. Rotary has something for each person's interest and passion for service.
LET'S COME TOGETHER IN BINGHAMTON
We hope all members of the future CNY Rotary districts (D7150, D7170 & D7190) will plan to join us for our joint conference April 26-28, 2024 at the DoubleTree in Binghamton, NY. Dynamic speakers, breakouts that will inspire action, and a lot of fellowship will make it a worthwhile way to spend a weekend immersed in Rotary. We will celebrate our clubs, learn about new ways to serve, better understand our impact around the world, and look to the future of our region.
Registration is now open, so please sign up and be sure to book your room!
