MEETING Aug 17, 2023 .... by Mary The Beginnings: President Elect Ayham opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge and welcoming our guests: Rick Burton (Author and David B. Falk Professor of Sports Management at SU), Eric Prager (Rosemary's friend and potential new member) and Corinne and John Buterbaugh (Bill B's family). Several announcements were made as follows: - Service project Tuesday Aug 22nd at 75 Fennell Street. Packing books from the library book sale. - Service project Saturday and Sunday Sept 2nd and 3rd at Fireman's Field Days to serve clams and corn. See sign up info above. - Duck Dash save the date....September 30th! - Calendar ... Bill B reviewed the updated calendar which was passed out to members. - Last meeting at Legion is August 31st and we are back at The Sherwood on the 7th of September - Happy Hour hosts for Sept 14th are Connor and Robin....at the Legion.  The Program: Bill B introduced Rick Burton, a Skaneateles neighbor. Rick has a diverse resume in the sports field and is currently Professor of Sports Management at SU. In addition, Rick is an author of several books both in the sports field and fiction thriller genre. Rick talked about sports as an economic system and as a large sector of the U.S. and global economy. Sporting events are no longer just regional. Events are accessible 24-7 from across the globe. Rick answered a number of questions from members and his insights are quite interesting! (P.S. I did order one of Rick's fiction books from Amazon and will let you know how it is.)The Four Way Test - Bill C led us in the Four (Five) Way Test. And a big THANKS to Ed for arranging our dinner! We had 20 members attending last week's meeting! |
