RI President-elect Barry Rassin’s theme for 2018-19, Be the Inspiration, asks Rotarians to inspire change in the world and in each other. “I ask all of you to Be the Inspiration to help Rotary move from reaction to action — to take a hard look at the environmental issues that affect health and welfare around the world and do what we can to help.

This week's meeting was a celebration of our youth exchange program. Eduada's and Kashyap's enthusiasm about their exchange experience was obvious. Zoe fondly recounted her experience in Italy last summer. A big "thank you" to host families that make this program possible! If you, or a friend our neighbor can be a host family in the future please let us know.
In the meantime, don't put you snow shovels or snow blowers away.......see you next week.
International Women's Day Celebration Results .... Kathy Crelot
A GREAT SUCCESS - We are donating the net profit of $6,100 from the IWD dinner in 2018 versus donating $4,200 in 2017. We will have sent $2500 to the Friends of Women's Rights National Park for their new pilot program called 1st Amendment , 1st Vote and $3,600 to Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation for the Girls Ambassador Program. We are asking both recipient's to address the Club regarding their programs at a later date. Both of the leaders of the organizations spoke at the dinner.

Summary Notes of Mar 15, 2018 Meeting... by Ward
Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a short summary of discussions points and resolutions.
Minutes of the February Board meeting were approved (current and past minutes may be viewed on the website - member sign-in is required)
Skaneateles Rotary Foundation financials were reviewed by Kathy Crelot.
Mary urged members to attend the District Conf. Bill Conole will be attending in her place, as she has a conflict with the date .
New member pre-induction procedures reviewed.
RYLA selection process reviewed, with respect to the one BOCES allocated candidate.
Special event attendance procedures discussed.
Discussed need for candidate for president of our club for the 2019-20 year.
Bill Conole reviewed the upcoming Club programs.
Cheryl reviewed the year to date Rotary Foundation results: 119% of our $6000 Anl-Gvg goal met, and 90% of our PolioPlus goal met. Kathy was requested to release the $1500 matching funds for distribution.
Cheryl Silvestrini reviewed three Worthy Cause requests and funds allocated to: Easter Egg Hunt. Boys State, After the Ball, and 2 BFTW pallets. In keeping with policy these funds will be disbursed in March.
Potential grant recipients were reviewed including; the Community Center's fund for membership subsidy, the Spafford Historical Society. Upto $3,000 of club funds allocated to the selected grant, if approved.

IWD PROCEEDS - Prior to dinner Amy Tormey gave a brief review of last week’s very successful International Women’s Day Celebration. Amy announced 115 people attended this event & record $6100 was raised. The money raised will be allocated to the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center and the Girl Ambassadors for Human Right (see summary above). Amy expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who pitched in to make this event so successful.
DISTRICT CONFERENCE - Mary encouraged the membership to attended the upcoming District Conference, April 27-29 at the Radisson Hotel in Corning, NY. (see information below)
POLIO PLUS (PolioStoppers) -Ward is offering one of his distinctive, handcrafted Wine Stopper to any member who contributes $100, or more, to Polio Plus. In addition Ward will donate 100 point for a Paul Harris Fellowships to these members. Your $100 contribution, then really equals 250 PH points to the contributor's account. So please contribute.
YOUTH EXCHANGE - Karen Price welcomed all of our Youth Exchange families, guest & students. Karen introduced each Youth Exchange Student & talked about how they gained entrance into the YE Program & where they are going. Karin enthusiastically presented an overview of the Youth Exchange Program. Karen thanked our Youth Exchange Team headed by Gard Lorey & assisted by Lee Bennett, Lori Ruhlman , Alice Purdy & Jim McQuiggan.
THE PROGRAM- Youth Exchange Students
Zoe Franciamone, Short Term Exchange (summer) Program (STEP), spoke about her July 17 stay in Udine, in beautiful Northeastern Italy. Zoe enjoyed her host family’s Italian hospitality & became very close to her host “sister”Ilaria. During her stay Zoe visited Venice, Rome & several picturesque sites in Italy. Zoe thanked our club & Rotary for enabling her to make this memorable trip.
Kashyap Lalwala, Inbound Student from India spoke glowingly about his home city Sarat, India. Sarat is famed for their diamond finishing industry & for their distinctive textiles. Kashyap’s dad is a past president of the Sarat Rotary Club & active in Rotary District 3060. Kashyap described the food, culture & religion in his home state of Gujarat, India. Kashyap is enjoying his friends, teachers & extracurricular sports & activities. Kashyap thanked his host families & our club for the fabulous experience he is having here in Skaneateles.
Eduarda Honoratio de Frieta, Inbound Student from Brazil noted this is her 200th day in hospitable Skaneateles. Eduarda described how big & beautiful Brazil is. Eduarda lives nearBrazil’s capital, in Cristaline. Brazil is famed for it’s soccer, their carnival, their varied & exotic countryside & for their delicious food. Eduarda’s beaming smile conveys how very happy she is to be an exchange studtent in Skaneateles. Eduarda thanked Karen Price for her steady guidance. She thanked her host families & our Club for making her visit possible.
50/50 - Was won by Amy Tormey. Amy claims it was her first win in 5 years. In spite of this Amy failed to draw the ever elusive Queen of Spades.
