LAST WEEK... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings: The meeting began with a series of announcements from many club members:
President Doug introduced our guests (listed below). He then read thank you notes from Shelter Box and the Barrows Gallery for our club's generous donations.
John Moran announced that bell ringers are still needed for the Salvation Army pot at Tops. If you haven't done so, please sign up.
Cheryl Silvestrini let us know that the Club's Christmas dinner with spouses and significant others will be on December 19th at The Sherwood. Please RSVP to Cheryl at 315 761 9027 or cherylsilvestrini@rocketmail,com no later than December 5th. Cheryl also passed a sign up sheet for club members to bring a raffle item to the Christmas fundraiser on December 12th. And lastly, Cheryl passed a card around for Loren Barrigar who has provided music at club events. Loren recently had a severe injury to his hand.
Doug Powell reminded us about the coat drive he and Cathy organized. Coats should be dropped off at the Powell's by November 15th.
Rotary Foundation Giving was reviewed by our Foundation Chair, Bill Buterbaugh. Bill talked about club goals ($2000 for Polio Plus and $5100 for the Rotary Foundation). The club's goal is also to have "every member contribute every year". The first 30 club members contributing $100 will have a $50 match from the club and Polio Plus amounts will be matched two for one by the Gates Foundation through June 30, 2020.
Welcome to Ed and Andy! Ed Evans and Andy Stevens were formally inducted into the club by Amy Tormey. We extend a warm welcome and look forward to their company and participation in club activities. Ed was sponsored by Craig Froelich and Andy was sponsored by Bill Buterbaugh.
The Program:
Skaneateles Library Update David Lee introduced our guests from the library. Dave Henson, Board President, spoke about the process the library has gone through to plan for needs of the community served by the library. Dave said that the Board recently voted to retain the current building but that a decision on whether to renovate and expand that building vs. building a new building had not yet been made. Dave assured us that the current building would be well used and preserved regardless of the decision that is made. The library serves all that are in the Skaneateles School District. Susan Guske talked about the library's evolution and its role in the community as not just a repository of books but a community hub. Susan's presentation made the point that additional space is needed in addition to accessibility and parking needs. Larry Palmieri asked for our support in whatever path is taken as the Library is a valued and important part of our community.
50-50 was won by Bill Buterbaugh but the Queen evaded Bill's draw.
Guests Library representatives: Dave Henson, Susan Guske, Larry Palmieri and Nickie Marquis. Kelly McQuiggan, Jim's spouse and Beth Sullivan, John's spouse.
Attendance: 27 Members, or 49% Current membership = 55
