PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
Dorothea Hughes from the YMCA/Community Center gave us a great update on the organization and how it strives to serve all community members. It is a great community resource! Thanks to Bill Conole for arranging for Dorothea to speak.

A couple of reminders about our pancake breakfast which is fast approaching:
  • The June 7th meeting will be our organizational meeting so please attend.  We will review the preparation timetable as well as the Sunday schedule.
  • If you are the Chair or Co-Chair of an area and have not given me T Shirt sizes for your volunteers please email them to me so that I can bring them to this week's meeting.  If you were not at last week's meeting you can get your T Shirt this week.
Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday.

PACK'N FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD -  .... by Ward Vuillemot
Mark Your Calendars - On Sunday, Jul 8, 2018 at 2 PM, the Skaneateles Rotarians and friends will be selecting and packing children's and reference books at the Annual Skaneteles Library book sales, located next to the Village Hall, in the old fire barn.  Once the book sales is over at 2 PM, we will be permitted to glean the books for the CNY Books for the World project.  The selected books will eventually make their way to the children in 3rd world countries via the Rotarian BFTW project.  The gleaning and packing typically takes from one to two hours.  See ye there!

Salute to John Moran - Doug Powell saluted John Moran for the stirring speech he delivered in this year’s Skaneateles Memorial Day Remembrance & celebration.
THE PROGRAM - Skaneateles YMCA & Community Center
Bill Conole noted that Dorthea Hughes, Executive Director of the Skaneateles YMCA/CC, comes to our club annually to update our members on the recent events in the YMCA/CC. Dorthea opened her remarks by presenting a brief history on how the Auburn YMCA was invited to manage our Community Center in 2012. Robin Jowaisas & Chuck O’Neil played key roles in making this decision. Dorthea reported on this year’s successful YMCA/CC “Scholarship Fund Drive. Over $37,000 was raised to enable needy people to gain access to Y membership & programs. Over the past two years Dorthea has overseen a major building project that added a new , handicapped accessible, hockey rink & a new basketball/Volley ball Court. In addition, Dorthea has expanded the health/wellness facilities, added bathrooms on the 2ndfloor & reworked the main entrance. Dorthea stressed how expensive it is to maintain a large, multi-purpose building like our Y/CC.  Reflecting these positive upgrades, membership is now at an all time high of 4400. Dorthea thanked our club for it’s generous support over the past 6 years. Thanks to Dorteha’s management the Y/CC is now operating on a break even basis.
YE CANCER FUND RAISER - Eduarda Honoatio de Friela, our exchange student from Brazil, told members how, several years ago, a Rotary Exchange Student contracted cancer. Since then Rotary Exchange Students throughout our District have been raising money to battle cancer. Eduarda thanked members for their support & generosity.
50/50 - Was won by  Kathy Crelot.  Kathy missed drawing the queen of spades and so the pot continues to grow.
Guests - Dorthea Hughes, speaker, Dr Daya, Syracuse Rotary Club member & internationally renowned physician, M Gopan, friend of Dr Day, Eduarda, exchange student from Brazil, Kashyap Boher exchange  student from India.
Attendance - Members attending: 23 at 43%
