MEETING Jul 20, 2023 .... by Mary
The Beginnings: After enjoying a delicious meal and special dessert prepared by Brad our outgoing President Ed welcomed everyone including prospective member Vince Magnota. We recited the Pledge and Danny led us in song. A variety of members led us in the Four Way Test which has evolved into a Five Way Test. Ward announced that the new District Governor is looking for members interested in working at the District level. If you are interested contact Ward. Bill B thanked Ed and Ayham for their leadership this past year. Ed will be our Past President for this Rotary year and Ayham is our President Elect. Bill B recounted a year of change for the club: new meeting schedule, interesting programs, a service opportunity each month, a couple of really neat special events, and a number of new members. Ed then took the stage and thanked everyone for an "incredible year." Ed recognized Ward for all he has done for the club over many years. He also recognized Lori, Lee and Jay for their work on resurrecting the Youth Exchange Program, the Pancake Breakfast committee (Chuck O, Bill B, Robin and Mary) and each and every club member. Ed said that he is proud to be part of the club. Ayham then presented Ed with a plaque patenting the Five Way Test. "Will it be Fun" was institutionalized during the 2022-2023 year!
The Program: Changing of the Guard - Bill B and Ayham then inducted our new President, Doug Hill. Welcome to Doug and we are all looking forward to another Rotary Year.

2023-24 Presidential Initiatives .. from RI
Rotary International President R. Gordon R. McInally is passionate about mental health and helping remove the stigma that sometimes prevents people from getting quality care. During this year, Gordon will focus on three initiatives that Create Hope in the World: prioritizing mental health, building peace through virtual exchanges, and empowering girls.
Prioritizing Mental Health. Rotary has long been involved in mental health and wellness initiatives. Our culture of Service Above Self builds community and promotes acts of kindness, two proven methods to build and maintain mental wellness. Gordon is asking clubs and districts to expand on our culture of care by erasing the stigma associated with emotional well-being, raising awareness of mental health needs, and improving access to quality preventive care and interventions. He also encourages members to work with theRotary Action Group on Mental Health Initiatives, a global community with expertise in helping people improve their mental health. Other action groups specialize in related topics, such as addiction prevention. Watch a message from Gordon about prioritizing mental health.
Peacebuilding Through Virtual Exchanges. Rotary has a long history of working for peace through personal connections. Inspired by what we’ve learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gordon is encouraging districts to incorporate virtual components into more programs, events, and activities — especially Rotary Youth Exchanges and Rotary Friendship Exchanges. This will give people new ways to experience other cultures, make participation more accessible, and build understanding.
Empowering Girls. Gordon is continuing this initiative that focuses on elevating the voices and unlocking the power of girls and women around the world. He is encouraging members to keep finding ways to improve girls’ health, well-being, education, economic security, and self-determination. Empowered girls become empowered women who can change the world.
