PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Doug Powell
A warm hello to all the Skaneateles Rotary Club members!
Our meeting 7/11/2019 was attended by the current District Governor, Randy Wilson, and, two former District Governors: Phyllis Denks and Deb Glisson.
The gavel was formally handed to me from Past President, Bill Conole. I noted that I wanted to challenge all the members to:
Each find one new candidate for membership. We all have friends, neighbors, work associates, relatives and acquaintances. Let’s invite at least one!
I invite all members to bring community service projects to the club. I will do all I can to make them happen.
I will reconvene a membership committee or club revitalization committee. We will address issues preventing new members from joining and help retain members.
I would like to consider doing a small service project each month with the dinner.
DG Randy then waxed eloquently on many issues including his experience with Youth Exchange, membership, the interconnectedness of the world, the vast reach that Rotary has had and will continue to have.
Randy noted that he enjoyed the humor and friendliness of the members and noted that he adds to the Four Way Test a fifth question: Is it fun?
Looking forward to a great year!
Skaneateles Bookleggers at it Again .. by Ward
On Sunday 7/14, Skaneateles Rotarians and friends volunteered to glean and pack children and reference books following the Annual Skaneateles Library Book Sale. These books (15 cartons) will be a part of a 24 carton pallet to be shipped to the children of our world through CNY Books for the World organization.
Participating were Rotarians Bookeggers :Gary Ozminkowski (project leader), Robin & Joyce Jowaisas, Doug & Cathy Powell, Mary Giroux, Bill Conole, Chuck O'Neil & Hal Brown.
This is our 10th year of gleaning books from the sale. The CNY Books for the World was initiated in Skaneateles 10 years ago, and Skaneteles Rotarians has been responsible for funding and packing 41 pallets, of the 632 pallets gleaned since the inception of the project across Central New York. (1 pallets = aprox. 1600 lbs, so that is one 1 million pounds of gently used books. .... that a bunch and a lot of books!)
Many thanks to our Skaneateles Rotarians and their friends for participating and supporting this significant international service project.
