Carol Anthony, District Governor 2006-07 passed away Oct 6th due to a prolonged illness. Carol was a very active Rotarian in our District and a member of the the Chittenango and Eastwood clubs. VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITIES .... by Ward
Out of necessity the pandemic it has created new interesting & exciting ways of interacting and learning more about Rotary and its service opportunities. A few glaring example are the new and multiple ways we now have of attending significant Rotary quorums, conferences and projects from our homes and offices with less travel, expense and more time efficiency. Some current & upcoming examples forums & significant presentations are (links below and articles on each in this newsletter.);

The Assessable Trail Project will occur Saturday & Sunday Oct 17 & 18
If you can participate, please contact me (Dale) at daledrake@roadrunner.com or (315) 664-4852. As discussed, we will be setting of work shifts in hours shifts commencing a 10:00 Am on both days. There will be two shifts each day: 10am-12noon & 1pm-3pm, with a lunch provided at Noon. Both shifts are invited to the lunch. Let me know the day and time that is preferable to you.
Plan is to work in a few small groups of up to 12 people a shift. There will be someone from the woods team of regular volunteers onsite to operate a tractor to stage loads of gravel/sandstone on the trail to spread. There will be 5 wheelbarrows, and some rakes and shovels onsite. Volunteers should plan to bring with their own gloves, a rake and a shovel if they have one available.
Please keep in mind that the dates are still flexible, depending on weather conditions. I will keep you posted as to any changes as we get closer to the weekend of Oct 17 & 18.

The Beginnings - The meeting began with the Pledge. President Dave introduced our guests, Ayham Boucher who was attending his second meeting and Eric Knuth, Superintendent of the Skaneateles Central School District.
Announcements- The following announcements were made by President Dave:
Board of Directors meeting on Monday, October 12th
District 7150 Conference will be held virtually on October 16th and 17th. Registration required.
World Polio Day is on October 24th and will be discussed at the October 15th meeting.
Dictionary Project is being organized by Bill Huba & Ward with the presentation of dictionaries to third graders at State Street School in November.
Baltimore Woods trail project volunteers are needed for October 17th and 18th. Contact Dale Drake to sign up at daledrake@roadrunner.com..(see above)
The Program -
SCSD - Since our scheduled speaker was unable to make the meeting due to a death in the family President David invited Eric Knuth to tell us what is happening with the SCSD. Eric told us about the "reinventing of public education" due to COVID and recognized District employees for all of their efforts in the process. There will be a new capital project vote in December of this year which Eric will be back to update us on.
RI Website - President Dave talked about Rotary's six areas of focus referring members to Rotary's website for lots of information.
YE - Gardupdated us on the status of the exchange program for 2021-2022. Plans are going forward and there is one applicant so far. John O, Lori R and Karen P are working with Gard. Amirand Simon, last year's students that were sent home early due to COVID received their yearbooks.
Virtual Opprtunities - Ward reminded us about all of the virtual opportunities now available.
PolioStoppers - Ward is also offering a beautiful handmade wine stopper to any club member that donates $100 or more to Polio Plus during the month of October.

Walkin' 4 Literacy .... from Liz Metzger, D7150 Lit. Chair
The Rotary District 7150 Literacy Committee invites you to walk with us! We are holding a Virtual 4K Walk to raise money for literacy projects in our district. We’ve never done this before and that makes it fresh, exciting and something fun to look forward to. And we all need good things to look forward to during this pandemic! The Virtual 4K Walk (or run, if you are so inclined) will be held the weekend of our District Conference, October 16-17, 2020. The entry fee is cheap, just $5 per person but additional donations will be greatly appreciated.
Who can participate? Anyone of any age and you don’t even have to be a Rotary Member.
What is it? A virtual 4K Walk puts you in charge. Remember, the best antidote to these anxious times is ACTION.
Where do I walk? In your neighborhood, on your treadmill, at a park, anywhere you can put one foot in front of the other.
When do I walk? You choose the time on either October 16th or 17th (or the following week—we know you’ll do it because Rotarians follow through!)
Why should I walk? For your health, of course! And to get some fresh air, commune with nature and have an opportunity to take off your mask. But mainly to help improve literacy in our district!!
How does this help Literacy? Every penny raised will be made available to clubs for their local literacy projects.

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)
October 24th - Register Now ....... by Ward
The Rotary Leadership Institute will be holding their second 2020-21 season’s session on October, 24th via Zoom in Harrisburg, Pa.. The following briefly describes RLI and I have attached a draft copy of the day’s agenda. Part I is for 1st time attendees, and Parts II & III are for this who have attended the previous Part(s) in the past. The Graduate course if for those who have completed all three of the Parts.
The cost this year has been reduced significantly to $25 as it via Zoom and a venue with breakfast lunch is not provided (outside of you home or office). The Skaneateles Rotary Board of directors have passed a resolution to reimburse it’s members the registration fee once the course has be attended. Many of our members have participated in the past and found RLI very helpful in furthering their Rotary experience and understanding.
