PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday weekend with friends and family as we take time to remember our veterans and loved ones.  Mother Nature is being very kind to us weather-wise!
Melina Carnicelli gave us great insight into the 1st Amendment 1st Vote program developed to encourage civic engagement by young women.  Thanks Amy Tormey and Roberta Williams for arranging to have Melina as our speaker.
Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes......that's a lot of pancakes!  We will have special 50th Breakfast T-Shirts for members at our meeting next week so we can wear them while selling tickets at Tops and around town to advertise the event.
See you next Thursday!

THE PROGRAM - 1st Amendment.  A High Schools Girl's Program
Amy Tormey & Roberta Williams introduced our speaker Melina Carcinelli by noting that by noting that Melina was honored by our club on March 8thwhen we celebrated International Women’s Day.
Melina opened her presentation by pointing out that 1stAmendment 1stVote is set up to explore civic engagement with high school girls. With this purpose high school girls will become deeply familiar with Amendments I & XIX of the US Constitution & with the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution. This program enables students to appreciate the historical significance of Seneca Falls, NY as the birthplace of Women’s Rights in the US. The program teaches students how to register to vote & how very important voting is. An important mission of this program is to articulate a vision of gender parity in local, state & national offices. Most of this program helps young ladies to imagine themselves as potential candidates for electoral office when they become adults.
Melina’s presentation generated a lively discussion among our members. Melina noted that several high schools in CNY & the Buffalo areas are participating in this program. Recently Skaneateles High joined the program. Melina stressed that this program is evolving.  Melina closed by thanking Rotary for all they do to serve our community.
50/50 - Was won by  Suzanne Hutchinson.  Suzanne just missed the queen of spades by drawing the ace of spades.
