Sleep in Heavenly Peace is Back! ... by Jay
On Saturday, February 18th our club will be helping Sleep in Heavenly Peace assemble beds at the Finger Lakes Mall in Auburn (inside by the Savanah Bank entrance).  There is a short registration before we can start helping so the organization is asking we arrive between 9:30 and 10 am on the 18th. The project runs until the early afternoon but if people can only come for part of the day that is fine.
There is nothing you are required to bring with you but we will be assembling beds so if you want work gloves or anything like that I would recommend you bring them just in case.
Should you like to contribute bedding supplies to this project that can be accomplished by clicking on this link: https://amzn.to/3SPKgyu
Please RSVP with Jay Stith (jstith@healthstrategyassoc.com or call/text 315-209-0753) and follow the link and fill out this form in advance if you plan on helping: http://bit.ly/shpevent
New Member Induction ... by Mary
Chad Martin was inducted into our Club at our February 2nd meeting.  We extend enthusiastic "Welcome" to Chad.  He's been to many of our meetings and has already participated in club service projects. Chad was sponsored by Jay and is shown in this picture with Ayham, Rosemary,  Mike, his friend Katie Welch and Jay.
Former Rotarian passes ....by Ward
William (Bill) Rosbrook, former Skaneateles Rotarian of 33 years passed away on January 31th, 2023.  Bill was an active member of our club and was a Paul Harris Fellow and left out club due to illness in 2017. Bill, his wife Janice, and family lived in Skaneateles for many years.   He practiced law locally and the in Syracuse area until his retirement.  Bill was a good friend to all that know him and will be missed those of us that knew him.
Calling hours and Funeral Mass were held at St. Mary's of the Lake, Skaneateles on February 4th.  Bill's obituary can be accessed by CLICKING HERE.
Last WEEK Feb 2nd, 2023 .... by Mary
Membership/Attendance  - 39 active members, 16 attending
Guests -   Katie Welch (Chad's friend), Julie and Brad Littlefield (Rosemary's friends), Dylan and Katie Brown (Dave's friends) and Janet Aaron, Supervisor Town of Skaneateles.
The Meeting - President Ayham called the meeting to order and led us in the Pledge. Ayham welcomed our guests and club members.  Club announcements included:  Service project for February is Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed build (see article above), Happy Hour at the Legion on February 9th from 5:30 to 6:30.  The induction ceremony emceed by Rosemary and Mike took place and we all gave a hearty welcome to our newest member, Chad Martin.
The Program- Janet Aaron, Supervisor Town of Skaneateles, was our speaker.  Janet, a native Skaneateles resident, has been our Town Supervisor since 2018 and previously served both the Village and the Town for over 30 years. Janet told us about the coming changes at Austin Park and assured us that the arena would still be available for our Father's Day Pancake Breakfast.  She also spoke of other Town issues including maintaining  the quality of lake water.  Unfortunately, Janet has decided to retire from the Supervisor position.  If you run into Janet thank her all she has done for our community and convey best wishes for the future.
Four Way Test was led by our newest member, Chad!
February - World Understanding & Peace
 - and - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Rotary  ... Ward
From ABC's if Rotary .. Cliff Dochterman - 1992-93 Pres, RI
The month of February is very special in the Rotary calendar since it is designated World Understanding Month.  The month also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on February 23, 1905, now designated World Understanding and Peace Day.
In designating World Understanding Month, the Rotary International board asks all Rotary clubs to plan programs for their weekly meetings and undertake special activities to emphasize "understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace."
To observe this designated month, many clubs arrange international speakers, invite youth exchange students and international scholars from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs featuring former Group Study Exchange team members, arrange discussions on international Issues, present entertainment with an international cultural or artistic theme and schedule other programs with an international emphasis.
Many clubs take the opportunity to launch an international community service activity or contact a Rotary club in another country. It is a good month to initiate a Rotary Fellowship Exchange, a 3-H project or encourage support for Polio Plus and other Rotary Foundation programs.
World Understanding Month is a chance for every club to pause, plan and promote the Fourth Avenue of Service--Rotary's continued quest for goodwill, peace and understanding among people of the world.
ZOOM..ZOOM....ZOOM!!!
Dave Lee has graciously volunteered to set up equipment so that winter club meetings can be attended by our snowbird members.  Meeting format will continue to be dinner first and then the speaker at about 7:15.  Club members who would like to attend by Zoom must RSVP to Dave Lee by the Monday evening just prior to the meeting.  Zoom will only be set up if RSVPs have been received.  Dave's contact info is:  Dave@dleeco.com or 315-345-8418.  The Zoom link for the meeting will always be: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89163463617?pwd=aEYvVTZ6ZXlCcG1vNklyeUxMR1NFdz09.
News Wanted !!!
This is a club newsletter.  If you have something newsworthy to share with club members please feel free to email it to Mary G. at mfgiroux0614@gmail.com.  The newsletter is published after each meeting.
New Meeting Schedule!!
Members voted in favor of a new meeting schedule for our club.  Starting in August the schedule for meetings within a month is:
  • First Thursday - Dinner meeting with speaker.  Meeting starts at 6:30 and ends at 8:00
  • Second Thursday - Optional attendance at Happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30.
  • Third Thursday - Dinner meeting with speaker.  Meeting starts at 6:30 and ends at 8:00
  • Fourth Thursday - No meeting
  • Fifth Thursday (when applicable) - Dinner meeting with speaker.  Meeting starts at 6:30 and ends at 8:00
With fewer meetings attendance is more important than ever!
