NOTICES of NOTE - Skaneateles Rotary Foundation Annual Meeting this week
LAST WEEK: ... by Bill Conole
Our Program - Youth Exchange Student; Marcus Moraes from Brazil - Lee Bennett introduced our speaker, our exchange student from Brazil, Marcus Moreas. Lee praised Marcus for how hard he has worked to master speaking English. Marcus thanked Lee & thanked our club for sponsoring him to come to the beautiful village of Skaneateles. Marcus showed pictures of his home town & explained how the residents of this area of Brazil earn their living by raising corn, wheat & rice. Marcus noted that in Brazil lunch is the largest & most elaborate meal of the day. Usually steaks or ribs & many side dishes are served for the midday meal.
Before coming to Skaneateles Marcus had never seen snow. In his home town the average temperature is about 90 with high temperatures reaching 110 or higher. In Brazil colleges don’t even consider high school grades for admitting students. Instead college admission is determined by success on a difficult comprehensive examination. Marcus hopes to take engineering in college but said he may have to take the national difficult exam several times.
Marcus called Skaneateles Lake & it’s village & surrounding area the most beautiful area he has ever seen. Over the past ten months Marcus has made many friends here. Marcus thanked his host parents, & the students of Skaneateles High School for their hospitality & their friendship.
