RELIEF OF SURVIVORS IN NEPAL
.... From, Gary C.K. Huang, 2014-15 RI President - April 27, 2015
Rotary members worldwide stand together in expressing a profound sadness at the devastation resulting from this weekend’s deadly earthquake in Nepal. As we mourn the thousands of lives lost, Rotary joins other international agencies in providing immediate relief to survivors and mobilizing our expertise to support long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts throughout the country.
Please consider supporting Rotary’s partner, ShelterBox. A donation of approximately $1,000 will allow ShelterBox to deliver emergency shelter and other lifesaving equipment to a family that has lost everything following a disaster. Visit  www.shelterbox.org.
Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Our clubs carry out an array of initiatives, including disaster relief, water and sanitation projects, medical missions, disease eradication efforts, education and literacy programs, peace efforts, and local economic development campaigns.

LAST WEEK: ... by Bill Conole
Program--Our speaker Karen Winters was born & raised in Ohio. She received her BS, MS & Doctorate in Optometry from Ohio State University. Karen & her husband share a career in Optometry in CNY’s Finger Lakes while raising two daughters together. Karen is the president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness[NAMI] and is a strong advocate for mental illness awareness. Karen knows firsthand the challenges that mental illness can pose for families. She has talked to & counseled hundreds of families who have dealt with the frustration of a broken mental health care system. She has experienced the stigma and isolation of mental illness. People’s misconceptions often delay and thwart necessary treatment. The good news is that today with early intervention, and with modern psychotropic medications and psychiatric counseling, mental illness is being successfully treated. Thanks to these modalities, Karen’s daughters are recovering from bouts of depression and other related illnesses. Both daughters are doing well in school and adjusting well to their teenage years. Karen feels that education about mental illness can dispel many longstanding myths. She urged everyone confronted with mental illness to seek early intervention. Karen is the author of three books on mental illness the most recent of which is “the Chocolate Debacle.”

A HELPING HAND FOR A GREAT CAUSE - Bartek, our Exchange Student from Poland, is earning some money to help his parents allow he and his twin brother (also an exchange student in PA) to go on the month-long USA tour in July. Bartek will do yard work, wash cars and windows, even make a Polish meal for you and your family, or just about anything you need help with to earn some money. Call Bartek (604-1311 cell) or Host Family Jon & Susan Peterson (255-0550) to discuss your needs and his availability. ... by Bill Stevens
Skaneateles Rotary Foundation Annual Meeting May 28-  The annual meeting of our club’s local Skaneateles Rotary Foundation (SRF) will be our program at our Thursday May 28 club meeting. This annual meeting is required by the SRF’s by-laws of incorporation and all Skaneateles Rotarians as members of the SRF are encouraged to attend. The meeting agenda will include background on the SRF, the status of the campaign to create a permanent endowment fund, a financial review of the 2014/15 fiscal year, a vote on a change to the by-laws and the election of two new SRF trustees (Kathy Crelot and Peter Adams are the nominees). Please plan to attend this important meeting.  ... Robin Jowaisas
Revisions to the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation Bylaws ...  by Doug Rutan
Your Board of Trustees of the Foundation recommend adopting the following language for Article III/Section 12 of the By Laws. The new section clearly articulates the Trustees responsibilities and allows them the flexibility to place funds with a professional investment firm such as the CNY Community Foundation. We will vote on this at the Annual Meeting of the Foundation on May 28.
Article III – Trustees, Officers and their Duties
Section 12.   It shall be the duty of the Trustees, and they shall be vested with the power to, control and manage the affairs, funds and finances of the Foundation.  The Board may, in its discretion, appoint a depository agent and/or investment manager to manage any and all funds and property of the Foundation.
The Trustees shall also be vested with the power to establish a Permanent Endowment Fund to support the programs of the Foundation in perpetuity.  The investment objective of the Permanent Endowment Fund shall be to invest in a portfolio that allows for capital to be preserved and enhanced over time, both in real and nominal terms, and that is expected to produce an average annual return that at least equals inflation, plus any endowment spending, without undue risk.
