President-elect John Germ announced that this year’s Rotary theme is “Rotary Serving Humanity.”
"Now is the time to capitalize on our success — as we complete the eradication of polio, and catapult Rotary forward to be an even greater force for good in the world,” said Germ.
In celebrating this year’s theme, we also pause to reflect on the progress Rotary made last year — when each Rotarian was encouraged to "Be A Gift to the World." Rotary clubs across the nation gave their time and talents to worthy causes — whether it was donating dictionaries to local schools, collecting resources for area food banks during the holidays, or raising money to support efforts to eradicate polio. ....
Four Skantarians at District Seminar ... by Ward
Saturday, Jan. 23rd, four of our members attended the District Membership & Grant seminars at the Baldwinsville Library. Membership building & retention ideas and materials were presented by PDG Deb Glisson, followed by RF District Grant overview and "how to apply for" session was held by Mark Matt, D7150 Grants Chair. Both sessions were excellent and participant's investment of their time was well served. The event was attended by approximately 100 Rotarians from across our district. Members of our club present were: Cathy Powell, Grants Chair; Jim McQuiggan, Grants Comm. Mbr.; Bill Conole; and Ward Vuillemot.
Polar Bear Plunge - A reminder to bring donations to Thursday meeting if they would like to give to: Skaneateles Fire Dept., SAVES and Skaneateles Education Foundation while supporting our Interact club's fund raising efforts at the same time. Checks made out to: Skaneateles Polar Bear Club. All donations will be split between the 3 services. ... by Kayo

Dale Drake inducted - Amy Tormey, Membership Chair, to officially inducted Dale Drake into our club who is sponsored by Lee Bennett. Dale and his wife Stacy live in Skaneateles. Dale's classification is: IT Program Mgr., Amy presented Dale with a Rotary Plaque & a Rotary hat, shirt & apron. We welcome Dale into the world of "Service Above Self".
Youth Exchange Students - Lee Bennett introduced our two exchange students, Daniela (Danny) from Chile & Vincent from France.
Danny - showed a video of beautiful Chile. Danny also showed slides of her family & her hometown La Serena.
Vincent - noted that he attends a bilingual school in his hometown of Dijon, France. Vincent spiced his slide show with droll comments about his school, he likened to a prison & on his hometown.
Danny & Vincent - thanked our club for sponsoring them & for enabling them to come to beautiful Skaneateles. Both promised to return in a few months to talk about their experiences here.
Bill Blessing thanks - Prez Cheryl displayed a plaque commemorating Bill Blessing's six months of leadership of our club and passed around a thank-you card to folks to entered their best wishing. The card and plaque will be mailed to Bill at his new home in Leesburg, Va.
Anonymous RF Donor - Ward Vuillemot revealed that Bill Blessing is the anonymous donor who generously pledged $!,000 as a matching gift for our Polio Eradication Drive. Large RF kudos go out to Bill.
WinterFest - Bill Conole reminded that the Skaneateles Sunrise Winter fest is on January 30th. So far 18 of our members have signed up to help, who Bill will remind these members via e-mail this week.
Valentine's Dinner & International Womens Day events- Amy Tormey reviewed plans for our club's Valentines Day Dinner on February 11th. Spouses & guests are welcome. Amy also reviewed plans for our International Woman's Day Event on March 3rd – Amy asked members to please bring a bottle of wine for lottery prizes for this event.

LONG TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Outbound - The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have departed for a year as exchange students abroad. Sofia Darovskikh, to Finland, and Zach Driscoll to Germany. We wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Inbound - student have moved to their second host families: Vincent , from France, hosted by Jessica & Tom Wingfield, and Daniela from Chile, hosted by Shelly & Marc Strang.
SHORT TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM (STEP)
Hope Glowacki has spent a few weeks in Sicily, Italy and her host sister, Irene returned with her to Skaneateles for a few weeks.
Adrianna Marshall traveled to Thuringia, Germany and his host sister, Constanze, returned to Skaneateles for an exchange.
