Calling all Rotarians!
Help us reach our goal
Our Holiday Basket Virtual Fundraiser Dinner is off to a good start, thanks to a combination of Rotarians and community members. That is good news, but we have a way to go before the December 18 deadline.
If you haven’t given yet, please take the time to do so now!  We need full club participation to make the season bright for those in need in our community.
Please donate – and invite your family and friends to consider donating as well.
This year’s funds will be, as always, divided between the Skaneateles Food Pantry, the Spafford Food Pantry, and Skaneateles Outreach to help more than 100 families.
CLICK HERE to donate here or
write a check to: Skaneateles Rotary Foundation, and mail to:
Skaneateles Rotary Club, P.O. Box 316, Skaneateles, NY 13152
Project deadline is Dec. 18, 2020 - so that the funds get to those in need in time for the Holidays.
2020 RING THE BELL ... by Ward
It continues to be a difficult year for the Salvation Army, and other providers of critical services, and it is critical that we start planning our annual Bell Ringing project now so that we are staffed and ready to ring-n-ding at Tops by December 4th.   So ....please review the schedule, which can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page, or CLICK HERE.
If you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact John Moran at 315-685-8440 [home] or 315-256-5163 [cell]. Feel free to leave a message about your desired time if he does not pick up. Or e-mail him at john.moran46@aol.com.  John will confirm all appointments.
A great project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self in our community.
LAST WEEK - Dec 03, 2020 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 51 Active members, 19 Attending
Guests: Julie Abbott-Keenan (speaker) & Mike Tierney (potential new member & Charlie Smith (Marcellus Rotary Club)
The beginnings  The meeting began with Craig Froelich leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and President Dave welcoming our guests:  Julie Abbot-Keenan (County Legislator and speaker), Mike Tierney who connected with our club at the "Pints for Polio" event, and Charlie Smith, fellow Rotarian from Marcellus.  President Dave noted the following:
  • Youth Exchange Program is officially cancelled due to uncertainties with COVID
  • Kettle Schedule still has some openings.  See article above for sign up process.
  • Holiday Basket Fundraiser is chugging along.  Good progress is being made on our goal and to date 24 Rotarians (21 current club members and 3 alumni) have contributed.  Club members are urged to reach out to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.  The committee has done lots of work on setting this up and providing excellent communication tools so let's "make a difference" for friends and neighbors experiencing hardships during this holiday season.
The program    Jay introduced our speaker Julie Abbott-Keenan who represents the southwestern section of Onondaga County in the County Legislature.  Julie is a Skaneateles resident and serves on a number of committees in the area.  Julie talked about the challenges of representing such a diverse district and also the district that provides water to other county residents.  She also discussed some of the County's issues and actions in dealing with COVID issue:  balancing hospital capacity, mental health issues in the community, trying to avoid non COVID medical issues from becoming more problematic, reassigning County employees to work on COVID testing.  Julie also noted that the "low middle income" residents of the county are most vulnerable at this time due to job loss.  The county budget was passed with no increase in tax rates for this year.  However the budget for next year will be more difficult due to reduced state aid and a deficit in sales tax income, both COVID related.  Julie answered a number of questions from members.  Thanks to Julie for the update.
The endings Charlie Smith gave us a brief summary of issues discussed at the November 30th multi district membership meeting. Ward  let us know about the Polio eradication award presented to our club.  Andy S  led us in the Four Way Test.
