It was good to see everyone after our long, cold and snowy winter break. John Gilly from the morning club spoke about the Master Class series that St. James is sponsoring and asked for thoughts from the club on future topics. John Rooney is recruiting help with the morning club's Winterfest which is the last weekend in January. Please consider helping. Plans for the Women's Day event are also underway with a committee meeting held after the regular meeting.

Summary Notes of Jan 11, 2018 Meeting... by Mary
Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a short summary of discussions points and resolutions.
The Skaneateles RC Foundation financials were reviewed by Kathy Crelot There is approximately $7000 in the Foundation Account for Worhty Causes.
The Rotary Foundation giving was reviewed to date. Members still have until June 30, 2018 to make contributions to the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus. There are still five $100 matches left to take advantage of.
Bill Conole reviewed the program schedule and the Board discussed having a Valentine dinner at the February 15th meeting. The dinner was approved.
A request from the Sunshine Club to pay for one-half of the Rotary ice sculpture was discussed and approved.
A request for the club to provide a raffle gift valued at $50 for the Gala dinner was approved.
A request for funding from MOST (Museum of Science and Technology) was discussed. Lauren Kochian from MOST will be speaking at a future meeting. The request was tabled for the time being.

Happy New Year:—President Mary wished the 41 Rotarians present a Happy New Year!
Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign:- Mary announced that this year our club members raised $2,300 for the Salvation Army. With this money the Salvation will help local people in need. Mary noted this is another shining example of Rotary serving local people. Mary thanked John Moran for ably coordinating this year’s campaign. John thanked our members for volunteering to ring bell for the Salvation Army.
Pasta Dinner:—Kathy Crelot announced that on Sunday January 21st the American Legion is having a Pasta Dinner in their recently redecorated 2nd floor. The dinner is open to all families. Kathy has tickets --$10 for adults & a lower price for children.
Normandy Trip:—Kathy invited everyone to a luncheon on Saturday January 20th in the Legion. After the luncheon Kathy wants to tell everyone about a planned trip in August to historic Normandy France. This trip is open to all. Kathy will fully brief everyone on this on the 20th.
Skaneateles Sunrise 2018 Winter Festival: Sunrise member John Rooney spoke on plans for this year’s “Winter Festival” which will be held on Saturday January 27th from 11:30-2:30. Since its inception, our club has fully supported the Sunrise Club on this worthy fundraising event. John passed around a sign up sheet & asked that our members support the festival as we have in the past.

THE PROGRAM
Master Class Series: Bill Conole introduced our speaker John Gilly, a member of the Sunrise Club. John is also a member of the committee at St James Episcopal Church that is launching a new speaker series called the Master Class Series at St James. John & his wife have lived in Skaneateles since 2014. John is a retired Infectious disease & cancer research scientist & his wife is a school nurse John described the mission & purpose of the series. John noted that during a church discernment study the 3 goals of youth ministry, mental health & affordable housing were cited as critical needs in this community. John cited a few ideas being tentatively considered as inaugural topics for this series. John stressed that St James is eager to get feedback from people in the community for what topics or specific speakers would be a draw for attendees. John noted that St James has received a grant to initiate the series. The committee wants to start fundraising efforts to sustain the series. John asked members what topics may interest them. Among the topics mentioned by members was autism, the opioid crisis, & the family in the 21st century. John hopes this series will be like the famed Chautauqua adult education assemblies. A major goal of this series will be to foster civil discourse. The target date for the inaugural master series meeting is November 17th.
