CLAMS & CORN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ... Jack Hyatt
We still has some openings for volunteers to work the Clams & Corn concession at the Fireman's Days. The fireman support our Pancake Breakfast event with parking assistance and a sound system, this year. Time to give them a helping hand. Jack has the signup sheet and is looking for Rotarians to volunteer for one hour shifts.

PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
Last evening we heard from Barb Benedict about the compassionate and important work done by a cadre of dedicated CASA volunteers. Their commitment to the youngest and most vulnerable in our society is amazing. Lots of questions about the program and process for CASA referrals were asked by our members. Thank you to Cathy Powell for referring Barb to our club.
Let's support the Volunteer Fire Department Field Days this year by signing up to serve clams and corn! Jack Hyatt is coordinating this effort for Labor Day weekend. And, while you are volunteering you can enjoy some tunes provided by local groups.
Lastly, the big eclipse is Monday afternoon. I hope everyone has a chance to view it!

2017 SKANEATELES VOLUNTER FIRE DEPARTMENT LABOR DAY FIELD DAYS: Jack Hyatt asked members to volunteer to sell clams & corn in the SVFD Field Days. Jack passed around a sign up sheet.
ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS (RYLA): President Mary read a beautifully composed thank you note from a young man who attended the recent RYLA Camp in Cazenovia College. CLUB 200 FUND RAISER; Cheryl is selling tickets for our 2017 fundraiser. Cheryl will bring $20 tickets to the next few meetings. (see notice below)
The Program:
COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATED OF NYS (CASA). Cathy Powell introduced our speaker, Ms Barbara Benedict NYS CASA Director, by noting that Barbara, has spent her entire adult life serving others. Originally from Skaneateles, Barbara has worked in several upstate counties to make CASA the vital organization it has become. Barbara opened her presentation by pointing out that the mission of CASA is to train 7 supervise volunteers who are appointed by Family Court to provide unbiased, independent information to the Family Court in child abuse & neglect matters. The CASA volunteers firmly believe the following: 1 Every child deserves to be safe 2 Every child deserves stability 3 Every child deserves someone they can depend on. Today’s children & families in our Family Courts face daunting challenges. Abuse, neglect & drug addiction are becoming more common. CASA volunteers strive to ensure that children in our welfare system don’t lose their families, their rights & their hope. CASA volunteers give children a voice. Barbara urged members to join the CASA Volunteer effort by donating to CASA, or by volunteering your time & talent to CASA. By getting involved you can be a part of the solution to helping these children in need. Few things in life are as fulfilling as serving the youngest & neediest of our community.

Making-up in Rotary-talk, is not about making-up with a lost friend, is about visiting other Rotary clubs in your immediate area, or in other parts of the country, or in the world as you travel for pleasure or business. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet many interesting Rotarians and to make new lasting acquaintances, and glean new and interesting ideas for projects to bring back to our club. I have traveled to many places in our world in my professional life and as a tourist, and have visited Rotary clubs on those trips when ever the opportunity has been available. As a result, I have life long friends around the world. During my business travels, I seldom spent a weekend alone camped out in a lonely hotel room as my new found Rotary friends shared the part of the world with me, and I have learned more about Rotary and it many wonderful works than I could in a lifetime of local club meetings. Try it, you'll like it.

Attendance Make-up. These visits also count toward you club attendance requirements. ANNOUNCING - CLUB 200 FUND RAISER
200 Tickets at $20 each are be sold to members, friends & neighbors between now and October when 10 tickets (2 per week) will be drawn weekly with the winners receiving $50 each. The winning tickets will be recycled into the draw-bin for drawings the following weeks. So ..... multiple chances to win on a single ticket.
The whole event ends on Nov 16th, with two tickets will be drawn for $250 & $500. The $200 draw dates are: Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Nov 2, and the $250 & $500 tickets will be drawn on Nov 16.
Cheryl Silvestrini will have the tickets for sale over August & September. Do not miss out on this opprotrunity as it is limited to 200 tickets.
This is fun way for our Club to raise up $2,750 to use for worthy causes throughout the year. We can only make the maximum amount ($2750) if ALL 200 tickets are sold. The key is for ALL members to participate in selling (and buying) tickets.
NOTICE - CLUB BY-LAWS & CONSTITUTION UPDATES.... by Ward
As discussed at the July BOD meeting; Ward, Cheryl & Mary reviewed the club by-laws & constitution to make bring them up to date with RI recommendations and requirements. We found only minor changes required.
By-Laws - Modified references to the Constitution to be consistant with that document. (see page 3, Article 11 Leave of Absence)
Constitution - as "The bylaws of Rotary International provide that each club admitted to membership in RI shall adopt this prescribed standard club constitution", we replaced the old copy of the standard club constitution with the newer accept version from RI. (pages 2 - 13) There are very few subsequent changes of note. One minor change that affects us is that to meet the attendance exempt 85 rule, the Rotary must have been in Rotary for a minimum of 20 years, in addition to the age + years in Rotary = 85, and BOD approved.

Seldom do we have an opportunity to attend a RI International Convention this close to home. The last one was in Montreal 6 or more years ago. So .... Give it some thought and plan on seizing this opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the world and learn of great works they a doing to make this a better world.
