Including Rotary with Vacation ... by Alice Purdy
I am on vacation with my husband, daughter and exchange daughter, Daniella, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. As a make-up for our club's meeting tomorrow 4-28, I attended a lunch time meeting of the Cocoa Beach Rotary Club today 4-27.
I met, John Stark, who has been a member of the CB club for 32 years but is originally from Norwich, NY and attended MPH for one year. Small world!
On our drive to Florida, we stopped for an overnight in Washington, DC and toured the monuments on the mall at night. The next day we went on a White House tour with tickets we requested thru Congressman Katko's office.
Our daughter, Allison, and Daniella have been enjoying the beautiful FL weather and have been swimming and bike riding. They enjoyed a full day a Disney world yesterday. We are glad to be able to show Dani another part of our country.
LAST WEEK: .... by Cheryl Silvestrini
Member Retention & Recruitment NightAmy Tormey announced that a special Member Retention and Recruitment Night will be held on May 19th at the Lodge.  She encouraged all members to attend and bring guests.  Loren Barrigar will be performing as well.  More info to follow…
Engineers Without Borders - Jeremy Driscoll, a senior at ESF, and William Guida, a sophomore at SU, discussed their upcoming project with Engineers Without Borders.  The goal of their EWB chapter is finding solutions to real world problems.  The current project they are involved in is in Xela near Guatemala City.  The purpose of this project is to aid the Las Majadas community by addressing the health needs for 400 students by improving their water system and sanitation.  Jeremy traveled to Xela in May of 2014 to assess the site and meet the community.  They will be traveling in May and June of this year to implement their design.  They explained that the EWB students create the initial design, then the local professional chapter of EWB reviews the design, and finally it is sent to the National Chapter of EWB for their review.  William told the Club that 90% of the work is done at home completing reports, etc.  Their EWB chapter has hosted various fundraising events in order to help with the cost of the students’ travel expenses.
Guests:  Jeremy Driscoll & William Guida from Engineers Without Borders; Suzette’s dear friend, Lee Ibbs; and Chris Cheney who will be inducted this week.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST - SAVE THE DATE! .....
by Chuck O'Neil, Chair ; Mary Giroux, Vice-Chair
Believe it or not, the annual Father's Day Pancake Breakfast is only 10 weeks away! Father's Day this year is June 19th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as Friday, June 17th AM and Saturday, June 18th AM for set-up, and Monday, June 20th AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 48th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success! Our event has raised cumulatively over $500,000 since our first Breakfast in 1968, adjusted for inflation! So please schedule to be in town that weekend to help out at this "fun filled" community event! This service project, which supports many worthy causes, only works if every Rotarian makes a full commitment!
