The Barrow Gallery.....a Community Treasure!by Mary Giroux
We were treated to a tour of The Barrow Gallery led by Amy Rolleri, president of The Barrow Gallery Board. Amy began by telling the story of John Barrow and his bequest of the building that houses the library and the gallery to the Village of Skaneateles. The Barrow Gallery is unique in that is the only gallery in the world devoted to the works of a single artist. that represents the span of his entire career and was designed and built by the artist himself. Barrow left all of his paintings, numbering in excess of four hundred, with instructions that only his paintings be exhibited in the gallery. The subjects of Barrow's paintings are primarily lake scenes, vistas and pastures, and portraits. Barrow also penned poetry. Amy then led us around the gallery explaining how paintings are exhibited by season. She also showed us the "before and after" of paintings that have undergone restoration. Thanks to Amy for a great tour!
Last Meeting:May 15, 2025

THE PROGRAM:
>Skaneateles Rotary Foundation Report: Larry and Jay presented the annual report of our club's foundation. Income has grown significantly over the past few years. A contributing factor is the annual Duck Dash proceeds. Pancake Breakfast profits have also increased. Expenses are primarily Worthy Cause donations, scholarship expenses, and exchange student expenses. Larry asked us to consider the future direction of the foundation and how resources might be best used to make a meaningful and long-lasting impact. Andy pointed out that our club's 100th anniversary will be in 2027 and suggested that we consider a service project that will leave a lasting mark on our community.
>The Barrow Gallery: Ali Perry, Executive Director of The Barrow Gallery, presented an update on where the Gallery has been and plans for the future. The Gallery has changed its approach over the last few years introducing new fund-raising initiatives, expanding its volunteer base, making significant improvements to the Gallery's displays, and engaging with the community. Paintings have also been restored. Plans for expansion are in the works and will come to fruition when the library moves to its new location on Fennell Street. Then Gallery will now be open seven days a week from noon until 4 o'clock. In addition, walking tours will be held each Friday afternoon at 1:00 and 3:00. The Barrow Gallery is a precious gem in our community. Thanks to Ali for a great presentation!
THE ENDING: Amy Rolleri, fellow Rotarian from the Sunrise Club, led us in the (Four + one) Five Way Test!
