PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings Skantarians!  This past week saw excellent attendance and a very moving speaker from a local not for profit organization.  I had no idea of the services provided by Hillside, but am certainly glad for their presence and efforts.  Thank you PP Bill Conole for arranging.  Afterwards the committee for the International Woman's Day event held a planning meeting; anyone wishing to participate , please advise Amy Tormey  ASAP; many hands make light work.  I would also like to repeat Sunrise Club PP John Paddock's request for support for Winterfest; anyone who missed the sign-up sheet or who has questions, please go direct with John or, if you don't have his contact info, let me know and I will pass on.  Thank you & see you next week!

SKANEATELES WINTERFEST 2017  Celebrate Winter!  The annual Skaneateles Winterfest will take place January 27-28. 2017.  The event is organized by the Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary for the community.  Skantarians, mark your calendars to help our fellow Rotarians and community to make this year's event an outstanding cool-success.  CHICK HERE to access their event Facebook page.
SAVE THE DATE - While the annual Fathers Day Pancake Breakfast is still many months away, it is time to save the date on our calendars. Fathers Day this year is June 18th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as the Friday AM and Saturday AM before for set-up, and Monday AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 49th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event, and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success!  ... Thanks, Mary

LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
The Beginnings:
Winterfest - Prior to dinner John Paddock reviewed plans for the 2017 Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club's Winter Fest which takes place on January 28th and 29th. John reviewed the events scheduled for Winter Fest including the Friday night bonfire by the lake, Saturday's Polar Plunge, and Saturday's "Taste of Skaneateles."  Beautiful ice sculptures will once again adorn our village.  John asked  our members to assist the Sunrise Club by helping to set  up stands and sell tickets for the "Taste of Skaneateles."
Skantarian "I found it" - Ward Vuillemot announced that two of our members, Kathy Crelot and Amy Tormey, found his cleverly hidden offer of a wine stopper in last week's Skantarian.  Kathy Crelot won the coins toss to receive the beautiful keepsake stopper.  Ward reminded everyone to read our information filled Skantarian to keep current with club news.
International Women's Day - Amy Tormey briefed everyone on plans for this year's International Women's Day event which will be held at the Welch Allyn Lodge on March 9th.
Hillside Program:  Ian Richardson, Homefinding Specialist, opened his presentation by explaining how Hillside Children's Center provides therapeutic foster care to children in CNY in need of those services.  Ian noted that currently 20,000 children in New York State need foster care.  Providing foster care can dramatically change the lives of these children.  Hillside trains families on how to properly provide foster care.  Ian described how our members can support foster care by getting involved and by sponsoring parent recruitment drives.  Ian Richardson's mission is to heighten awareness of Hillside's services and to increase everyone's knowledge of how vital foster care is to so many deserving and needy children in CNY.
