"ROTARY" THE PUP .... by Mary
In October of 2019 a multi club grant sponsored by Skaneateles Rotary was made to Clear Path for Veterans for their canine development program .  In honor of that donation an 8 week old black labrador retriever pup was named "Rotary" (aka "Roty").   Roty is almost all grown up now and continues on his path to becoming a fully trained service dog for a veteran.  Roty is sixteen months old and can be seen around town wearing his red, white and blue "Service Dog in Training" vest.  If you see him and would like to say "hello" please ask first and Mary will cue him to "Say Hello."
We go to Clear Path once a week to learn how to teach Roty cues.  A few examples of his cues are:  "Back" (Roty walks backwards, useful for getting out of a closed in space),  "Dress" (cues Roty to put his head thru his service vest),  "Focus" (asks Roty to make eye contact),  "Front"  (asks Roty to sit in front of Mary looking at her).  These are all cues that will be helpful to Roty's person that he will be matched with after further training.  Roty will make a big step in his development in January.  He will return to Clear Path for his final months of training where he will learn additional cues and sharpen his skills.  The professional training staff at Clear Path will work with Roty every day.  It takes a lot of work to fully train a dog for service but the result is well worth it.  Thanks to Rotary "Rotary" will change a veteran's life for the better!
2020 RING THE BELL ... by John
It continues to be a difficult year for the Salvation Army, and other providers of critical services, and it is critical that we start planning our annual Bell Ringing project now so that we are staffed and ready to ring-n-ding at Tops during this Holiday season.   So .... please review the schedule, which can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page, or CLICK HERE If you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact Ed Evans at 315-554-8109 [home] or 425-503-9044 [cell]. Feel free to leave a message about your desired time if he does not pick up. Or e-mail him eae3972@aol.com.  Ed will confirm all assignments.
A wonderful project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self in our community.
LAST WEEK - Dec 17, 2020 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 51 Active members, 18 Attending
Guests: Mike Tierney
The Beginnings   President Dave welcomed club members to the meeting as well as our guest Mike Tierney.  After the Pledge of Allegiance was recited we were updated on  the following:
  • Holiday Basket Fundraiser - Jay reported that this year has broken a record!  There have been 130 donors with 85% of club members participating.  The "donate" button will be left up until December 25th in case there are any last minute donors.  Lori reported a discussion she had with Deb Brown from the Spafford Food Pantry.  Needs have doubled since last year and are higher than they were this summer.  This is a result of residents not bein g able to work during these winter months.  Our efforts will surely be appreciated.  To date, we have raised over $17,000.
  • Ring the Bell - Ed reported that there are still a few slots left open so please let him know if you can fill one of them.
The Program  President Dave read an email of thanks from Whitney Marshall, Director of Baltimore Woods Nature Center.  He then played a very heartwarming video recapping the work done on the trails as a result of the Skaneateles Rotary Club's multi club grant organized by Dale D.  Whitney thanked all of the participating clubs not only for the monetary support but for their hard labor on the trails.
The fun part of the meeting came next..........Virtual Happy Dollars!!  Everyone related what they are both happy and grateful for including the beauty of Skaneateles, the vaccines, the end of the SU football season, our new club members, new ways to connect with each other during this time of distancing and the enjoyment of the beauty of nature.
The Endings   Aham led us in the Four Way Test and everyone wished each other "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and See You Next Year!"
Skaneateles Rotarians Continue to Give
Generously to The Rotary Foundation
As we approach the mid-Rotary year, our membership has made good headway to meeting our year's  objectives of $5,100 annual giving & $2,000 PolioPlus contributions to The Rotary Foundation to support the many Rotary Foundation's life saving and life-changing projects through out our world.
Our Annual Giving (AG) and PolioPlus (PP) totals to date are:  $1,125 (AG) & $2,647 (PP), for a total of $3,772 YTD.  So far, 17 of our 50 members have participated.  If you have yet to participate, please send your checks to Bill Buterbaugh, made out to "The Rotary Foundation". We are looking for 100% membership participation.
