Board of Directors Mtg Brief ... by Mary Giroux
Your Board of Directors met on August 1, 2024. The following is a brief of the discussions and actions taken:
Attendees: Doug Hill, Mary Giroux, Andy Stevens, Rosemary Mondo, Ayham Boucher, Vince Magnota, Duane Weaver, Conner Finlay, Bill Buterbaugh (guest) and Evie Shaffer (guest)
President Ayham opened the meeting.
Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Club Goals: Ayham reviewed his goals for the club which include new member growth, expansion of range and frequency of service projects and strengthening of the youth programs. He also discussed social media and expanding our Facebook content.
Financials: Duane reported on the club’s operating account which is in good shape. Expenses were reviewed. Duane will review the invoicing of the Foundation for exchange student dinner expense.
Community Service Projects: Conner reported on a successful Polo for Preemies event which club members participated in. The Swap Shop is seeking someone to take goods to either the Rescue Mission or Salvation Army once a month on a Saturday. John Moran is seeking a replacement to coordinate the Salvation Army bell ringing. The process was discussed and Rosemary will speak with John Moran and the Chamber of Commerce regarding this. Ayham expressed that the club may seek out international service project opportunities.
New Member Inductions: The induction ceremony was discussed and it was agreed that either the sponsor or the person inducting the new member seek out introductory information about the new member to personalize the process. New member items and cost were discussed. The following Rotary items were agreed upon for new members at an approximate cost of $51 per new member: hat, T shirt, pin and apron. Rosemary will order 12 of each at an approximate cost of $600. The club operating account will bear the expense. Cups for speakers were also discussed. A minimum order of 72 is required at an approximate cost of $600. These were also approved for order. Andy moved and Mary seconded the approval of approximately $1200 in expense for new member items and cups.
Holiday Basket Discussion: The Club has been reserved for Thursday, December 5th. Communication to members will begin at the first September meeting. It was agreed that planning and preparation for the event need to begin soon. Soliciting business sponsors for the event was discussed as an additional way to raise funds.
Rotary Foundation: Bill B. will begin the Rotary Foundation campaign in October concurrent with World Polio Eradication Day. Because of our many new members there will be additional information provided.
Next meeting: September 5, 2024 at The Sherwood at 5:00.

THE BEGINNING: President Ayham led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed our guest, Corinne Buterbaugh, the better half of club member Bill B. ANNNOUNCEMENTS:
>Fireman's Field Days: Robin passed a sign up sheet for hour long shifts on Sat, Aug 31 and Sun, Sept 1. Shifts start at 12 noon and end at 8 PM. We help the Legion by serving clams and corn. The Legion and VFD help us at the Pancake Breakfast. See the article below with open spots and how to sign up.
>Community Service Projects: Conner reported on the Polo for Preemies event. Club members manned the kid's area, served paddocks (tables), and helped with event clean up. It was a great event for a great cause! Upcoming service projects are: Duck Dash in September, Matthew's Walkathon in October, Poll Workers meals on Election Day and the Holiday Basket fundraiser in December. >Library Service Project: Mary asked for volunteers to help the library clean up and box books after this year’s book sale. The date is August 12th. Time is 5:00 and address is 75 Fennell St. Last year, with several volunteers, the cleanup took less than 2 hours. Let Mary know if you can help: mfgiroux0614@gmail.com. >Happy Hour: Please note that our next Happy Hour will be at Craig and Barb Froelich’s boat house on 101 W Lake Street, on August 8th. Please try to join us in this beautiful setting. Club members signed up to bring munchies.
>Speakers: Bill B passed out a list of potential speakers and asked that we all make a contribution to programming by suggesting and seeking out speakers for our meetings. If you have a recommendation let Bill B or Bill C know. >RSVPS: Please show up when you RSVP our meetings. Now the club has to pay for no shows. This expense will be passed on to members.
THE ENDING-Ayham thanked Robin and Ed for setting up our dinner, Will Pratt for creating our dinner and the Legion for hosting our club. Ayhamled us in the (Four + one) Five Way Test
Clams & Corn - Help Wanted!!!!! by Mary
Firemen's Field Days are coming up and help is needed to serve clams and corn for the Legion. Location is the Austin Park arena and shifts are two person and one hour long. So grab a buddy and sign up for one of the following open spots:
Saturday, Aug 31: 6:00 to 7:00
7:00 to 8:00
Sunday, Sept 1: 6:00 to 7:00
7:00 to 8:00
