A Global Grant to supply Sewing Machines & micro-grants enabled 256 women in Karur, India to start their own businesses. This project was initiated by Karur Rotary and joined by the Skaneateles Rotary and supported by D7150 Aria 6 clubs, D7150 DDF & TRF matching funds. The machines were distributed in early Fall of 2001 & Ward was scheduled to represent SRC at the presentation, however the 9/11 World Towers destruction caused the him to cancel the trip, the State Debt's advise. In 2002, Ward was in India on an RLI Facilitator training trip and arranged to take 5 days to visit Karur and interview many of the grant recipients. He estimated that those machines & micro grants made a significant positive impact of more that 3,000 people lives. Rotarians helping people in need in our world! Ain't it grant?
